Owner description: Edinburgh Castle is a world famous icon of Scotland and part of the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh’s World Heritage Site. It was recently voted top UK Heritage Attraction in the British Travel Awards and is Scotland’s number one paid-for tourist attraction. This most famous of Scottish castles has a complex building history. The oldest part, St Margaret's Chapel, dates from the 12th century; the Great Hall was erected by James IV around 1510; the Half Moon Battery by the Regent Morton in the late 16th century; and the Scottish National War Memorial after the First World War. The castle houses the Honours (Crown Jewels) of Scotland, the Stone of Destiny, the famous 15th century gun Mons Meg, the One O' Clock Gun and the National War Museum of Scotland.

At the top of the Royal Mile, opposite to the beautiful Hollyrood Palace, sits the jewel, Edinburgh Castle, the best and only castle you need to see in Scotland. Loved it.

The views from the castle are spectacular. Inside this amazing fortress every room is full of history and has stories to tell. In winter it can be quite a cold outing though. Still shouldn't be missed.

This was a very expensive attraction for what you got to see, a lot of the areas were closed off to visitors for restoration, which was very disappointing. I was expecting to see more of the inside of the castle but there were only a handful of rooms open to visitors. I did enjoy viewing the crown jewels though.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the castle and it's many exhibits. The views from the castle are amazing. The personal audio devices that are included with admission were very interesting and informative. The castle has so many things to see that three hours was not enough. Don't miss the regimental museum and gift shop.
