Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Great varied menu. We'd the vegetarian thali, chilli chicken dosa, keema pakora, chilli fish cakes and garlic and coriander naan bread. Accompanied by kingfisher beer V busy place, would advise to book a table in advance. Will definitely be recommending this place.

We decided to try this place a short walk from our hotel on High street. We didn't have reservations on a Wednesday night, but they worked us in and let us sit at a bar area. It was a little tight but we were happy to get in. We shared several dishes (butter chicken, fried mushroom, and a cauliflower/potato/green bean vegetable dish. Also garlic naan. All were excellent!

Rather cramped seating prevented a five star rating for this excellent restaurant serving good value Indian food
A busy Saturday meant the waiters seemed stressed though hospitable
I would return but on a quieter night

This place certainly doesn't disappoint and after reading great reviews about it online the expectation was high. The style of sharing multiple small plates is a delight, allowing you and your partner to try a wider selection of dishes compared to a usual Indian restaurant. The staff are extremely welcoming and attentive to service. We are mid afternoon and it was very busy but still got great and efficient service. The dishes I would highly recommend (probably all of them) would be the butter chicken which has a surprising kick to it but offers a deep and complex set of flavours for a cream based curry. The other star of the show pas the peshwari naan wishI have to say was the best I have ever tasted. Crispy on the outside while inside fluffy and light taking into consideration it was stuffed full of sweet filling was an exploit in itself. Prices are extreme reasonable and great value got money, any futur visit to Edinburgh we make will almost certainly warrant a trip back.

Through Tripadvisor recommendation we booked to eat at Mother India's Cafe and were surprised and disappointed to be greeted and taken to the basement area rather than eating in the main restaurant. To be fair the restaurant was packed (7.30 on a Friday night) both upstairs and downstairs however early booking should have meant a table in the main arena (in my opinion).

The restaurant operates on a tapas style so you order dishes which all arrive at the same time. If I had my time again I would order two or three dishes and then the same again when required as there are no hot plates and so by the time you are nearing the end of the meal the dishes are luke warm.

HOWEVER - the food is incredibly good and when asked for an extra hot dish the waiter was very obliging. The downside of this sort of dining is that you are in and out within an hour and feeling incredibly full as its all a bit rushed - popadums, starters and main courses served together, which is good for the restauraant as there was a constant queue of customers whilst we were there.

This sounds a bit moany which its not meant to be as the service is good and the food first class - its more about trying to help any future customers re ordering bits at a time! We woul definitely go thre again.
