Took advantage of Black Friday promotion 2 nights dinner bed and breakfast. Excellent value. The hotel is still undergoing refurbishment since our last visit. We had one of the superior bedrooms which had been almost finished. It was excellent but the mirrors in the bedroom and bathroom were still awaited, a minor point. Everything else had been finishedThe room was very well appointed with tea/coffee facilities. The food was excellent in the restaurant, improved on the last visit. Staff were very friendly and helpful. although there were still tradesmen on the premises we were not disturbed by them and they were very polite. We used our stay to visit the Caelaverock Bird reserve, Gretna Outlet centre and Hadrians wall.

Although the Hotel is undergoing massive refurbishment we were impressed with the cleanliness of the place. We stayed in a recently remodelled room that was modern and spacious. The staff were friendly and helpful and nothing seemed too much trouble to them. We are looking forward to going again later this year when the remodelling is complete as it does look promising even at this stage of the development.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south east side will offer good views of the solway although our room on the opposite side was so good it didn't matter to us.

This is the second time we have stayed here. Went on a Groupon deal £60 for dinner, bed & breakfast. The room we stayed in was 206 and it was superb. Yes, there is still work to be done on the hotel and we were informed that it would be about another 12/18 months before all the work would be complete. The dinner was excellent as was breakfast and the staff very friendly and helpful. It is only a 3 star, so those going that want 5 star service/experience then book a 5 star hotel!! The only down side for us was the mattress was too hard.

We will be going back.

Room Tip: We stayed in 206 which is a double queen suite

Stayed here for one night ( thank god ) couldn’t stay for any longer than one night I’m afraid as there isn’t even a decent lounge to sit & have a drink or coffee, the staff need training, I can cook better myself, the dinner was awful !! Was in newly refurbished room but loads of faults to say the least, hopefully the rest of hotel is getting refurbished as its ready for falling down. Very grubby & dirty. Been to all the Rad hotels & this is by far the worst ever, just not in the same league

We decided to pop to hetland hall for coffee as our brother is getting married there this year and we had yet to see the venue.

Arrived about 10am and we were greeted and quickly given a table despite it still being breakfast time. Unfortunately that's where the good service ends.

The waitress abruptly stripped the table, took away the menus and did not return! After 10 minutes we stopped a second sullen looking waitress to order four coffees. These eventually arrived after another ten minutes.

The two cappuccinos and two americanos were put at the end of the table for us to fight over, eventually followed by a sugar bowl. We asked for spoons and were given one, three more followed later. All the coffees were on espresso saucers, the cappuccinos were lacking foam and the Americanos were in latte glasses! We also had to ask for milk, which was possibly pushing the boundaries of the waitresses capabilities!
The coffee itself tasted like hot water had been scared with coffee bean.

Overall, the experience was seriously bizarre. Service was outstandingly poor. Best part was the free chocolate at the end! AVOID!
