“Great for large groups, lovely views & location is perfect for biking”
Reviewed 15 October 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Lovely big house which sleeps 10 easily. Great reception rooms, especially kitchen which is cosy and well equipped. Bathrooms are a bit dated and showers were temperamental, but house was clean and warmed up quickly for such an old property. River views are spectacular and the location is perfect for families who enjoy the outdoors. Peebles has so much to offer for cyclists, walkers, shoppers and those who love eating out. Would recommend Glentress for all of the above!

“'Amazing'”
Reviewed 16 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

My family and I have just returned from a week long stay at 'The Mill' and were so sorry we had to leave what i can only describe as an idilic retreat. The Mill was a truly amazing place to stay and we were only sorry we didn't book longer. The Kitchen was a fantastic part of the house which we used mostly through out the stay. We had the patio doors open constantly due to having fantastic weather the whole week. The rooms were extremely clean to a very high standard and the beds and bedding extremely comfortable and fresh. Only a couple of slight niggles, there was no hanging space for clothes other than 2 small clothes rails, 1 in master bedroom and 1 in toy room, so for those who didn't have one, basically lived out of a suitcase. The showers were not very powerful or very hot, that being said it was stated in the white book about the settings for the showers which we adhered to but it was enough for us to use. The views from the living room were amazing and the noise of the passing tweed was certainly welcome whilst sitting on the patio after a long walk. Plenty of places to visit. Endless walks through the 7 staines, bike trails, loverly gardens and even the 'Go Ape' is a must, a brilliant afternoon for all the family. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed every minuet of our time spent at 'The Mill' and Peebles and would have no hesitation in recommending this place to anyone. I will certainly be looking at booking again for next year.

“Lovely place for large family gathering in a beautiful location”

We had a great week here with all the family. Everyone loved the location and there was plenty of room for us all; the house was fitted out very well for large numbers . The kitchen was excellent, very well equipped and with plenty of space for us to sit at the table. The playroom was a great success with the youngest visitors and we all enjoyed the sitting room with the tremendous view. We also made good use of the river and garden, it was great to have such a big outdoor space.
There were however a few niggles; the keys to the patio doors were lost which meant we couldn't spill out from the kitchen to take advantage of the view. The downstairs bedroom was comfortable but stuffy as neither outside door nor windows opened.
The garden was not equipped as shown in the photos, we understand the play equipment was washed away earlier this year in the floods, but the photos and description should be changed to take this into account.
None of this alters the fact that we had a great week.

“Stunning Setting, Fantastic for Kids Too”
Reviewed 28 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We enjoyed the use of this house very much. It is spacious, modern and extremely well equipped. The local area is beautiful with plenty of walks and cycle runs, gardens, castles etc. There is no shortage of activities. Peebles was well stocked with good restaurants and shops. We particularly liked the house as it was so well set up for the kids, with a playroom with loads of toys, TV and DVD etc.

“Lovely setting, room for improvement”

We stayed here for a family celebration and the location, setting and layout were great and the house worked really well for us. However there were a few areas where the property could be improved to make it really great.

We were travelling with small children who adored the playroom and the large selection of toys and books, but we were disappointed by the outside play area. The photos on the website show a climbing frame, slide and playhouse but in fact none of that was there - just a broken swing. It was not securely enclosed either, the children were able to access the riverbank through a gap in the fence.

The kitchen was well equipped which was great when catering for a large group, but the other rooms could have done with updating and refreshing as the decor was rather tired. The shower in the bathroom on the top floor had very low pressure and the bedroom we stayed in had a very soft mattress, which we found quite uncomfortable, and a large heavy free standing mirror which was broken and just propped up against the eaves - fortunately we realised before any of the children pulled it over on themselves. It was good to have a proper cot though.

We were lucky enough to have some decent weather but couldn't really benefit from it inside as a number of the windows were painted shut and there was no key to open the doors from the kitchen onto the patio.

And finally, it was good to have free wifi but the range was very limited - there only seemed to be connectivity on the same floor as the router.
