Stayed for 1 night before my hospital visit, with my mum. Our room(room2) was lovely, very clean and fresh looking but cosy, which was needed on a cold frosty night! Ensuite immaculate. Breakfast was arranged around us, as had to leave early for the hospital. Unfortunately I was fasting...still went down with my mum to tease myself...fresh strawberries and other fruit, chance of a full cooked breakfast, cereals etc etc. Mum thoroughly enjoyed her fruit, porridge, toast and coffee(I didn't grudge her it at all ). Thank you to wonderful thoughtful hosts, who recommended a good place to eat nearby, and gave us advice about buses to the hospital. Oh, forgot to mention the lovely fire in the breakfast room, making it feel so homely.
Would definitely stay again(when I could enjoy that breakfast!)and recommend highly.
Thank you both for a very welcoming stay!

Thank you so much for your lovely review. I am glad you enjoyed your night here, just sorry you were not able to enjoy breakfast. Hopefully another time. Have a good Christmas and a Happy New Year. All the best for 2018.

For the past couple of years, whenever we travel to Scotland to meet up with our family, we like to stay at this B&B. There have been occasions when they have been fully booked and we have had to stay elsewhere. There are many excellent B&Bs in and around Melrose but this is our favourite.
'Booking in' is between 4 and 7 p.m. - if we arrive early there are plenty of delightful little cafes in Melrose where we can spend the time.
Dumferline House is always very clean, warm and welcoming. Bedrooms are en suite with the luxury of a heated towel rail in the bathroom to keep the towels warm and dry. The beds are very comfortable so we know that we will have a good nights' sleep.
Breakfast is perfect! A large choice of cooked ingredients plus a 'breakfast special'. Fruit is presented in individual bowls so that we can make up our own fruit salad. There are also several cereals to choose from.
And, of course, there is always the welcome from the owners Alison and Bryan.

This place is great value for money. The hosts were friendly from the moment we arrived till when we left. The room was spotlessly clean and warm. En suite had lots of treats. Beds were very comfortable. Breakfast offered plenty of choices and was very tasty. We would love to have stayed longer. Top of the list for value for money at the B and B's we stayed in during our visit from New Zealand to the U.K.

This is the first B and B of our St. Cuthbert's Walk and our hosts were very kind, understanding and accommodating. We had mistakenly taken a public transit bus from Endinburgh to Melrose: 1 1/2 hours versus 40 mins by train....who knew???
Anyway, it was cold and late at night when our hosts discovered us just across the street from their lovely B and B.
Great room, lovely sleep and wonderful full breakfast in the morning to start us off on our walk the next day.

Thank you for taking the time to review Dunfermline House. It was so unfortunate that the start to your walk was such a mix up, but you did get to see some very lovely scenery, before darkness fell!! so glad you enjoyed your stay, and I hope you enjoyed the walk. Thank you again for your kind words.

This rates as one of the very best B&Bs we have stayed in. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious and beautifully cooked. There was a special on each day. Bryan and Alison were friendly and very helpful. Highly recommended.
