We booked into Maryculter House Hotel to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary this week, and what an amazing couple of days we had. We decided to book the romantic getaway which was fantastic value for money. Before checking in we enjoyed some sandwiches and coffee in front of the amazing fire in the Great Hall. Check in was quick and easy and throughout the duration of our stay the staff could not have been more attentive and friendly.

Our room, The Benholm Suite, was huge, and the chilled Prosecco and luxury chocolates were a lovely late afternoon treat. We also ordered a gin and whisky in the room for arrival which was a lovely addition to be able to include. The bathroom was something else, with a huge claw foot freestanding bath and massive shower, as well as some very nice Molton Brown toiletries.

We had dinner in Poachers Restaurant and again could not fault a thing, the service was wonderful and the food delicious. Portions were perfect sizes and the rhubarb creme brûlée was amazing.

After dinner we went back into the Great Hall to enjoy a cocktail in front of that wonderful fire again.

Breakfast the following morning was lovely, again service was wonderful and the size of the breakfast was just what we needed. It was at breakfast the following day that I noticed the background music - all instrumental versions of popular songs. I really liked this as it provided great background sound without being too distracting.

We extended our stay by a couple of hours by having afternoon tea, we had planned to have a nice walk along the river, but the beginning of Storm Babet changed that plan, so instead we headed back to our favourite spot it the hotel - the amazing fire in the Great Hall, where we enjoyed some tea and relaxing before having our afternoon tea.

Afternoon tea was also perfect - I particularly enjoyed the addition of the mini cup of soup, and the scones were some of the nicest we have had.

Across the many hours we spent in front of the fire the team were very attentive, always making sure we had everything we needed and making sure the fire was always topped up with fresh logs.

Overall this was a fantastic stay and we would not hesitate in returning. Thank you to the team at Maryculter House for making us feel so welcome.

Room tip: Make sure you enjoy a coffee or cocktail in the Great Hall. It’s an incredible space with so much character and the open fire is amazing.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for a family wedding and was blown away with the experience. We'd stayed there a number of years ago for another wedding, but this was an exceptional stay.
The welcome on arrival was extremely friendly and despite us arriving for the wedding 2 and hours before the official check in, our rooms were ready and we were allowed to take our bags to the room and finish getting ready. The was as you expect, clean and with all the things you'd need. The bathroom was large with a shower that was equally as big. Only thing I'd say was room was too warm, but I do like my bedroom to be cooler.
The wedding service was held in the hall and the only criticism of the day was the lack of staff on at the bar before the wedding and before the meal. However the pricing was a lot more reasonable than I was expecting.
After the ceremony, we were graced with lovely canopies which were haggis balls, roast beef and mozzarella. We thought that there maybe a tray or 2 of each, but they kept coming with more and more!
The meal was exceptional! All 3 courses had portions which were more than enough and the sticky toffee pudding portion in particular was so big I could hardly finish!! But that wasn't all the food, no halfway through the evening dance, more food was taken out. There were stovies, bacon rolls and trays of chips, cheese and curry sauce! Still full from the meal, I resisted the temptation but others were impressed.
The breakfast was really good in the morning with continental and cooked on offer. The cooked was perfection with the poached eggs exactly how I like them.
Overall, it was a wonderful stay and a wonderful wedding at a picturesque venue.
Would definitely go back and highly recommend this as a venue for a wedding.

This is an absolute gem. The staff are wonderful, the service is superb and the IPA is delightful. I can only imagine that the previous negative comment is somewhat doubtful. Second time we have stayed here and we will definitely be back. Thanks to all the staff...... You are the best! Steve

Room tip: We had a balloons, chocolates and a bottle of fizz in the room on arrival. Unlimited choice from the dinner menu too! Great deal.
