“Like staying with family”

If not for our hosts, Jim and Dee, this would be a very ordinary B&B. The facility is unremarkable, the beds too soft, the duvet crinkles like cellophane is inside it, there is no tea/coffee maker in room, bathroom is old and grout chipping out of tiles but. . .it was clean and as I said, our hosts were probably the friendliest we'd encountered in our trip.

Caw Cottage was an easy drive into Londonderry although traffic in the mornings and evenings is like any other city in the world at rush hour. The neighborhood it is in is residential and felt very safe.

Staying at Caw Cottage was like staying with family. Lots of stories to swap. Dee was an amazing cook who was undaunted by any request. Eggs came fresh from the chickens in the backyard. One morning she made my husband pancakes and french toast accompanied by a fruit compote she'd found a recipe for the previous evening.

While beds were not made up, they would have been I'm sure if we'd asked, and the bathroom was not freshened as in other B&Bs, you could not fault the effort to make you feel like you were visiting family--they don't make up my bed either.

Spent two nights here. Jim and Dee were perfect hosts. I think they both went the extra mile to insure our stay was comfortable. They are located across the water from Derry, not really a comfortable walk for us. We had a car so it was not an issue.

Dee asked what we wanted for breakfast. I think Jim likes serving the eggs from his chickens. Dee was willing to fix anything we wanted. Breakfast was great.

Jim is a talker. We enjoyed listening to his stories. If it weren't for Jim and Dee, this would be an ordinary B&B. They both made this an extra special stay.

Jim & Dymphna made us feel welcome right from the start.
We settled in & after a coffee relaxed with some very
interesting conversation. Local info & history you cant
get from books! Rooms, breakfast & hospitality over

Dympna and Jim were fabulous hosts from the moment we arrived. We were offered tea and goodies but as we only had one night in Derry we declined. Dympna offered to give the 4 of us a ride downtown, but it was so much more, and turned into a wonderful tour of Derry with an unbiased perspective on Derry's past. We learmed much from her which made our exploring so much more interesting. Our rooms were spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent with fresh eggs from their chickens and wonderful soda bread. Dympna generously shared the recipe with me so we can make it at home. Jim was very helpful and took my husband and our flat tire to the garage to see if it could be fixed before we headed back out on the road. Our thanks to both of them.
There is much to see in Derry and one night is not enough. Make sure to go to Bogside to see the murals, see the newly opened peace bridge and stop in to Peader O'Donnell's pub for great trad music.

What a beautiful spot, with the gardens that surround the cottage and the chickens that were out back! A true haven, and a nice surprise on an unassuming cul-de-sac not too far from the new Peace Bridge.

Jim and Dymphna went out of their way to welcome us tired and weary travelers with coffee and biscuits. They were also willing to store our bicycles locked out back in their garden. And they took it upon themselves to find us another lovely place to stay when all their rooms were full. We will be forever grateful!
