We ate lunch in The Crown Dining Rooms Just before Christmas . It wasn’t busy which was a real bonus. Friend were visiting from Seattle so we wanted to show them traditional food and drink and enjoy the pub atmosphere. There was only one member of staff serving but only 3 or 4 tables of customers. We had to really try to get his attention at times he seemed more concerned about rearranging the tables and chairs and clearing the tables that checking if we needed more drinks etc. All the food was great but my chicken and ham hock pie was clearing chicken and mushroom. I had nearly finished it before I was able to get the waiters attention to tell him about the lack of ham . It was still delicious which I pointed out but was disappointed it was not as described on the menu. Any patrons disliking mushrooms would perhaps have other feelings! The waiter said it was nothing to do with them as they buy the pies in and that’s the way they come !!! After our meal and several minutes of trying to get his attention again (all he needed to do was glance over now and again ) we needed to order a second drink but when he did glance over he said he’d bring our bill . We said no thanks not yet ,actually we’d like to give you some more business and order some more drinks. They took a while coming but we enjoyed them , settled the bill and left. It’s a great place , food and drinks really good but would have been perfect had the waiter given us a bit more attention and appreciated us being there ! Maybe he was having an off day so we’ll not be put off returning to see !
