All of my three stars are for the location and the room, both of which were lovely.

However. Having paid £200 to stay here for one night I kind of expected really great, seamless service. That absolutely did not happen.

We were only allowed to check in from
5pm (I assume they were using the room for a bride prior to this). When we showed up at 5 the office was shut, locked and dark. We hung around a bit with no sign of anyone arriving. Eventually we went into the lodge itself, which we felt a bit uncomfortable about having been told it was off limits for a wedding when we booked, but there were no other staff in sight so really no choice. There was one man behind the bar who wasn’t able to check us in for 20 minutes as he had just had a big drinks order in.

Eventually we got to our room which was clean, spacious, well presented and had a brilliant view across the lake. However, there were some issues - surprisingly small bed for what is supposed to be a bridal suite, no shelf space or towel racks in the bathroom, terrible water pressure in the shower, and the electrically operated curtains don’t meet in the middle! The doors are also badly adjusted and I had trouble locking them (my other half managed it fine but he works in the door/window industry). No hair drier. There appears to be some sort of climate control but no instructions and we couldn’t make it work - we spent the night baking. There are also seats outside but you wouldn’t want to sit in them - covered in spider webs and dead flies.

The biggest let down was breakfast. When we booked we were told continental breakfast would be served in the room. Breakfast wasn’t mentioned when we checked in but when we enquired, we were told not in the room but in another cabin a little way down the lake between 9 and 10. As others have commented breakfast really is a joke - rice crispies and cornflakes, strawberry yoghurts, an unpleasant looking job lot of “pastries”, a bit of cheese and some barely browned toast. Filter coffee jug quickly emptied and wasn’t refilled.

All in all this was a really disappointing stay. I could have forgiven the faults if we’d paid £100 but for £200 it really felt like someone was taking the mickey.

We were lucky enough to be invited to a Wedding Evening at the Lodge you have to say the location & setting is breathtaking we were staying the night which we were really looking forward too. Things however didn't get off to the best of starts when we eventually found out where to go to book in we were met by a very unfriendly person (chunky blonde piece) who tried to fleece us for an extra £50 then when she realised she wasn't getting away with it again (yes we were not the first she had tried it on with) was very unhelpful in pointing us in the right direction to the room. The room however quickly made us forget about her rudeness and we got ready for the evening one thing at this point the TV didn't work it seemed that the remote batteries were u/s but as we were not there to watch TV again we forgot about this. I could at this point go on & on but basically the bar was extortionate which you half expect but what was annoying was I never paid the same price all night long there was only two of us and the round never changed remember the blonde bird at the start she was obviously not behind the bar that night but her friends were. In the morning we went for breakfast which was a disappointing continental type affair checkout was at 10:30 very early after a wedding but getting back from breakfast were mortified to find the cleaners in our room at just 10:15 very unhappy about this with personal belongs still on tables etc not ideal at all. So just to recap pay in full before you arrive & take your own booze & batteries other than that a great place.

I attended my friends wedding here over Easter. I'd never heard of it before she'd booked her wedding here but what a stunning location! Unfortunately it rained all day but it didn't matter, everyone still had a great time! The food was very good as was the evening buffet. We stayed in the room directly above the lodge which was a beautiful suite and we sat on the balcony in the morning and ate breakfast while watching the fish jump around the lake. However, the breakfast unfortunately did let it down. It would have been nice to all reconvene the next morning and have breakfast together but instead you have a little hamper on the room with a small box of room cereal and a croissant which was pretty dry. Then a fridge with milk and juice in it. I know however, that they are working on a breakfast room so hopefully you'll be able to do that in future!

My friend had her wedding here
Was lovely all day and night
But disappointed in the breakfast we had the following day after paying £140 to stay
The option was for breakfast
Rice crispies (30 years of age we are lol)
A cheap Aldi cuassant and a yogurt
