“Fantastic cottage in a fantastic spot”

A great little character cottage, just 50 yards from the heart of the town.

We stayed as a group of 7 (including a baby) and had plenty of room around the cottage. Nice sized bedrooms, great kitchen and a lovely snug-feeling lounge with fire. No garden, which is a shame, but you have the whole of Snowdonia as your garden!

The only downside would be the bathrooms. The one upstairs with the bedrooms is right up under the roof, meaning you're showing at a 45-degree angle! And the other is cold and downstairs off the kitchen. But that's a very small thing.

We loved it and will definitely consider it next time we're up in the area.

Liked best: location, location, location - and a big family kitchen and cosy lounge
Liked least: cold/cramped bathroom and banging my head on the doorframes!

Management Response

We do have a small enclosed patio garden with table and chairs for 6 people, as well as room for sun loungers. I don't know why the downstairs bathroom was cold as I've never noticed this. Perhaps someone turned off the radiator?

“Snowdon challenge weekend - warm and cosy cottage”
Reviewed 13 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

We stayed at Is-Y-Graig for a wonderful long weekend just before Easter. We planned to walk the South Ridge of Snowdon and being in Beddgelert the cottage was really close to the start.

The cottage is stone-built with a cosy living room and large farmhouse-style kitchen with three good sized bedrooms, 1 twin and 2 doubles. The cottage was rather chilly when we arrived but the central heating system is very efficient and once the cottage was warm it was great - really welcoming. The owner, Alix, provides full instructions on using the facilities and we were able to change the heating settings easily. There is also a fire-buring stove in the living room which I am sure is fantastic but we didn't have time to use it.

The cottage has everything you would need - cooker, fridge, microwave, washing machine and dryer, dishwasher etc. and all easy to use and well explained and there are plenty of pans, crockery and glasses etc. There is hanging space in the Utility Room for coats and outdoor gear. The beds, which feel a little hard when you first get into them, are actually really comfortable and the shower and bathroom facilities are perfect.

The only difficulty we had was with our booking through Trip Advisor which can be a bit of an inflexible site but Alix was really helpful and we sorted it all out via email and a call to Trip Advisor.

There were 5 adults in our party and we all had a great time but the cottage would equally well suit a family.

Beddgelert was very quiet at the time we visited but we had good food and drinks at The Royal Goat, althought they only serve food early so beware. Our favourite place was the Cwellyn Arms at Rhyd Ddu, which is a short drive away but has wonderful beer, fabulous food and a great welcome.

The cottage is very well placed for travelling within Snowdonia and beyond. We also explored old haunts on the Llyn Pennisula - watching the sea rolling in at Morfa Neffyn and visiting Porthmadog and Criccieth on the way. We planned to visit Portmerion but sadly a flat tyre changed our plans!
