Visited for lunch, was quite empty but the service was good, and the staff friendly. The meal was excellent, and we both enjoyed our separate dishes. Took about 20-30 mins for the food to arrive but was ultimately worth the wait.

This was the first place we visited on a short break to Salisbury, as it sounded very inviting and full of charm on the Visit Salisbury app. However the ambience was disappointing, the smell from the toilets was unpleasant, around 75% of the dishes we wanted to order were not available ("We have everything except Burgers, chicken, pasta, steak and schnitzel" - which didn't leave much frankly), when we did order we waited an inordinately long time for our meals (another large party arrived after we had ordered and had received and eaten their meals before ours arrived), and for all that it was quite expensive. I was really disappointed and would not recommend this place. When I mentioned to a friend who lived in the area that we had come to the Chough, her answer was "why?".

We decided to dine here for Sunday lunch as it came recommended by friends and colleagues! All I can say is to not sit anywhere near the toilets as every time someone opened the door we were met by an overwhelming odour of toilet and urinal freshener!! We were forced to moved to a cosy area but unfortunately the table wasn't for dining purposes!! Not ideal but preferable! When our roast dinners arrived my heart sank, we were presented with two plates of what looked like frozen ready meals, three small unpeeled roast potatoes, one broccoli floret, two small definitely not homemade yorkshires, 3 slices of carrots and a spoonful of cabbage! Have to say though there were generous pieces of meat and a pot of horseradish to feed a medium family! Having been in this situation before when ordering roast dinners, I thought ahead and ordered a side portion of chips, they were delicious, thank goodness my forward thinking saved us from visiting Macdonalds on the way home!

We had a reasonably nice meal, however, the smell from the toilets which kept wafting over was quite intolerable, infact it made you feel sick. This is a good pub but someone really needs to sort the drains out!
