“Highly recommended for short term and long term stays”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2012

Woodbrooke has been a home from home for me over the last 15 months. Working locally on a long-term contract, I needed weekday accommodation that would keep me happy over that period. Woodbrooke certainly did that and more. Very friendly and helpful staff, excellent varied, delicious and healthy food, a perfect room with a lovely view, beautiful and tranquil surroundings with woods and a lake and all at a very reasonable price. To walk round the lake and through the woods after a hard day’s work was uplifting and quickly relieved the stresses of the day.

I met many other guests on short and long term stays who were equally delighted with Woodbrooke. I will certainly miss Woodbrooke. Highly recommended.

Just a mile from the local railway stations at Selly Oak and Bournville, and with a bus stop outside, there is no need to use the car to reach Woodbrooke, although they have plenty of parking. The single room was simply furnished, with no TV, but very comfortable and clean with good en-suite facilities. TV's, if required, can be found elsewere in the building. All the meals, which were of a buffet style, were excellent both in quality and quanity. The cheese selection was superb. I took one of the vegetarian options. In their extensive grounds they grow some of their own food, but most of the grounds are set out as informal gardens with a lake and woodland area, making a tranquil space, even with the busy road nearby. The house, a former home of the Cadbury's, is within walking distance of Bournville ad the Cadbury chocalate factory. As a quaker studty centre it has an extensive library for guests to use. If I had one complaint it would be that the moring papers did not always arrive before breakfast, but as I was the only one looking for them, it did not seem to be a problem. A new lounge was being built whilst I stayed there and as soon as this is finished there should be even more facilties for guests. I was there for a short 3 day course but think those wishing to stay there for a short holiday would also find it ideal.

The staff are friendly and the whole place has a relaxed atmosphere.

I stayed here on a 3 day residential course and it’s a great place to stay, the rooms are simply decorated but very comfortable.
Woodbroke is set in stunning grounds and you can really lose yourself in its beauty.
The food is of a great standard but please bear in mind that Woodbrooke is a Quaker centre so if your wanting to drink this will not be the place for you but it’s a fantastic place for peace and quiet.

FANTASTIC place to relax and truly rest.Library has 24 hr access to Quaker books but also to fiction.Food is wonderful with much choice and caters for special diets. There is always a friendly companion at shared tables or a silent table if you wish for silence. Quakers on courses are happy to chat and there are also many B&B guests too.The grounds are beautiful and Bourneville is nearby for a longer walk.Buses are plentiful and stop outside, taxi's know it well and the train station is a short walk away.
Rooms have shampoo and body/hand wash and many are ensuite with some shared bathrooms too.Numerous toilets are dotted around the buildings for comfort too. There is a new lift for those with disabilities and a stairlift in the main building too.The staff are very welcoming and tea/coffee is available both in rooms and in the dining room on a help yourself basis with additional supplies dotted around the buildings.Having been there when a (false)fire alarm went off at 1 am I can vouch that the staffs only concern is the wellbeing of residents.

Room Tip: If you require a TV in your room, ask. Similarly if you require an accessible room.Staff are very he...
