“Lovely Hotel, Great Central Location”
Reviewed 28 April 2012

Stayed here as part of a weekend break, we were looking for a decent hotel, centrally located and with parking... we made an excellent choice!
The hotel had a good range of facilities and you are literlly 2 minutes walk from the river/centre of town. Our room was smart, clean and comfortable and the service was great, the staff were professional and efficient but also managed to be remain warm and friendly.
We will be going back the next time we visit Stratford.

Brilliant location for discovering Stratford. Breakfast served an excellent choice. Staff very friendly. The room was fine - comfortable bed, everything clean (apart from windows) but the room was quite small.
All in all a good stay.

Thank you for your feedback glad you enjoyed the convenient location and had a good breakfast. I will pass on your comments regarding the window in the bedroom. With regards to the rooms as the hotel is a Grade ll listed building the rooms do vary in shape and size.

We hope you will stay with us again in the future.

We have just returned after a great stay. I can't comment on 'value' as the trip was a surprise celebration, however the staff were attentive and helpful throughout our stay, the room was excellent and the hotel was perfect for our needs - so much nicer than the budget establishments we usually stay at, but not so 'posh' that we had to worry about our 4 year old's every move or word! Our son loved it and we thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing break too.
Room:
We had a family room at the rear of the hotel which was spacious and clean. It was incredibly quiet considering the hotel has a lot of rooms and is on a main road. (We were woken on the first night by 'neighbours' having a heated domestic - hardly the hotel's fault! - and after that we hardly heard another sound). The settee and chairs in the 'lounge area' of the room were incredibly comfortable and a real bonus, my husband appreciated the sky channels on TV and our son enjoyed the space he had to play in. I often get a sore back when I stay away from home and I did find the mattress too soft.
Location:
The hotel is ideally located - virtually next door to the canal tow path and just a short walk, even for little legs, from the river, the shops and the main attractions of Stratford. The open top bus tour is great for getting your bearings and a river trip is a must. It was so nice to be able to park at the hotel and not have to use the car to get about.
Food:
Breakfast was excellent - the 'make your own' muesli was great on the first morning (so much so that I think it must have run out after that!) and on the second morning I had the best kippers I have tasted. The staff were very helpful and our waitress was a delight! She was full of smiles and really friendly, even taking the trouble to talk to our son each day and bringing him the three mushroom's he requested with his breakfast one morning!
After getting drenched on the bus tour late one afternoon, we came back to the hotel to dry off and decided to have a hot chocolate in the lounge / bar area. I have never seen so many hot chocolate varieties on offer - I think it was about 16! The bar staff were really helpful and manged to conjour up some whipped cream for our son's drink to go with the marshmallows we'd been offered! The danish pasty was one of the nicest I've had - served warm and making it almost worth getting soaked to the skin for! That night we used room service and my husband had to go down to reception because the phone wasn't answered. Once ordered, the food arrived promptly and was warm and very tasty.
Finally:
A final 'plus' has to be the free use of the local leisure centre, again just a very short walk away. As said, great stay, perfectly located hotel..

Upgraded to an Executive Room, worth the extra £15 a night as the standard rooms looked quite small. Our room was at the back of the hotel, so not too much traffic noise. Very nice breakfast, and a nice change to see 'build your own muesli'! Evening meals were good and the £25 allowance on the package was pretty good. Not much in the way of vegetables though, so we asked for seasonal mixed veg and there was no problem, even though they weren't shown on the menu. I did suggest they might consider putting them on! In a very good location, few minutes walk to the town centre, and a free car park on site. Only problem, not as many spaces as rooms, and if there's an event on (murder mystery, conference etc) it could be a problem getting a space. We were lucky the girls on reception told us to get a space by early afternoon on Friday as they had a Murder weekend on. Kirsty, the lovely waitress at breakfast, also suggested we get down early for breakfast on Saturday as it would be very busy - she wasn't wrong. A good tip to remember! The Town Walk with David, starting at the Swans fountain was a great experience. Informative and cultural but NOT too heavy. Appreciated the discount vouchers he provided. Shame we'd already got our Shakespeare houses tickets as could have saved 50% of the cost! Made up for it with 10% off the Cream Teas in Hobson's, a stones throw from Wm S's birthplace though. All in all, a great place to stay in a lovely town...and we were lucky...hottest March week for years!

Room Tip: Rooms at back avoid traffic noise.
