Lovely house with generous size rooms, everything you need for a comfortable stay. Lots to do, grounds and location excellent.
We booked the house for my wife's surprise birthday celebrations at the end of November and were not at all dissatisfied. Arrived late on Friday evening to find the house large, as expected and nicely warm as it was a very cool evening. The main reception room is spacious and well furnished and easily accommodated our party of 8 adults and 2 babies. The dining room is also large with a grand table to seat 10 adults. The kitchen is fitted out with all mods cons including an AGA. However, we ate out for most of our meals apart from breakfast. The bedrooms are well furnished. The master with its own large en-suite. There are numerous bathrooms within the property, all clean. Hand towels, loo rolls and liquid soap to hand. Sadly, with our visit being in late autumn, we could not take full advantage of the pool, tennis courts and other garden facilities. However, all in all, a grand week end away.
Great location with beautiful country views large clean house is very spacious and well equipped Kitchen/breakfast room with aga lovely and warm, found the bedrooms comfortable with large beds, home from home, this house does not resemble or justify the last two previous reviews, excellent large spa like bathrooms/walk in hot powerful showers,
large modern dining room and lounge, with lots of seating, plenty of TV’s with full Sky TV ,v good internet, can’t wait to go back in the summer to use the swimming pool and tennis court highly recommended with friendly owners.
From the first point of booking, the contact with the owner was poor. He didn’t get back to us for weeks regarding booking the place, so we had 10 people on hold having to sort out work commitments etc not knowing what was happening, when he finally got back to us he was only interested in replying when he wanted his money, however when we had questions & queries he never replied.
My advice is READ THE SMALL PRINT, as I have seen so many reviews saying the same thing, that the prices are not clear when booking & not worth the money, so many hidden extra costs it’s so off putting. Once booked, the owner practically bombarded us with messages asking us to pay extra security deposit and extra money upfront for gas and electric! on top of the £900+ we had already paid for 2 & half day stay...
As there was a lot of us and it was for a celebration, we asked politely if there was any way we could get in the house a little earlier to drop our things off, to be told very abruptly .. DO NOT TURN UP BEFORE 4pm.. by the owner. So really, for all that money we only had 2 full days.
On the last day you have to be out for 10am on the exact dot! Or risk having cleaners letting themselves into the house on you at 10 on the dot..
To cut a long story short, the actual house is big & spacious but aside from 2 of the bathrooms, the rest of the house desperately needs updating. The beds are so small and so uncomfortable, the mattresses and pillows really need replacing desperately. Not one of our group of 9 had good nights sleep.
Even though we were charged full price and £80 extra for gas & electric, we had no use of the swimming pool and was told just the day before we went that we could not use the aga either, which looked like it hadn’t been used in months.
The pool area was dangerous, one of our group tripped up on one of the peg things from the pool cover in the garden.
They couldn’t play table tennis as one of the bats was broken.
The pool table is not full sized and in a restricted area of the dinning room so you can’t even get the q round to play properly, plus they charge you to pay it...
My last point is, there were no outside bins to put our rubbish in, with 9 people in a house obviously we had some bags of rubbish, we walked around to try and find where to put it but there was nothing. They actually had the cheek to ask us to take our own rubbish away with us absolute disgrace.. if you go to a hotel for the weekend would they say to you that you need to empty your room bin everyday and take it away in your car when you leave? Of course they wouldn’t. This was not told to us before booking either.
We wasn’t in the house that much as we went into Stratford all Saturday and went out for dinner Sunday but was still charged nearly £80 for gas & electric... there is no way on this earth we used that much as we didn’t even cook meals or have the heating on constantly or anything.
It took the owner days to give us our deposit back. We Have asked him for a breakdown of the charges & proof of exactly what we used for him to have charged us so much for gas & electric, however surprise surprise as it’s not to do with him getting paid ..he has ignored the request. I think this is a fair request, you don’t just pay that sort of money without proof.
It is a shame, as with some updating and better customer service and communication from the owners this could be a beautiful place to stay & a great little business for them.
Booked the new inn house for my 50th bithday celebrations ..with all my family traveling down from a distance ..Mr Dalby i must say was not the nicest man to deal with when booking or break but we hoped things would be better when we arrived ..we booked from friday to monday and wasnt alloud to arrive until 4pm even though the property had been empty ..on entering the house we were so dissapointed ..the property is so very dated and run down ..the master bedroom the bed was so small and mattress was horendos ..the pillars must of been purchased from a really cheap store ..we didnt sleep .had to go to a local store and purchase new new ones !! also the bedroom was so dated and the units were falling appart was so shocked ..the living room had throws over the chairs because they were so worn and dated ..we paid for the the arga and got charged for it bit never got it back ..we only staded 2 and half days and we we out 2 days and still got charged £83 for fuel ..also the pingpong table rackets were broken and the cover for the swimming pool were danderous ..please beware ..on leaving our dissapioning break which cost nearly £1,000 for 2nd half day we were acually asked to take our own recycling home with us !!!!! this really topped an aweful stay ..we had posh clothes hanging in the car and Mr Dalbys wife insisted we take all our rubish in the car as she refused to pay for a recycling bin for the holliday home !!! we found this asstonishing !! we had emailed Mr Dalby since returning but no reply (what a surprise ) PLEASE BEWARE AND READ BEFORE BOOKING ...
