“Excellent, well-equipped holiday home for large groups”
Reviewed 2 November 2014 for a stay in October 2014

We just returned from a week at The Guesthouse with extended family. Dave looked after us very well, providing extra Z-beds and a lovely welcome pack on arrival. The house is very comfortable and has a lot of charm. It really did feel like a home away from home. The kitchen is very well-equipped, with 2 toaster, 2 kettles and enough cutlery and crockery for a large group. The beds are really comfortable and the bedrooms well-furnished, with lovely bathrooms. We needed to be within easy reach of the Freeman hospital in Newcastle, but also wanted to be close to Hadrian's Wall and some good walks. For both of these, the house proved to be well located. We have already re-booked and only came home yesterday!

Liked best: Size and feel of the house, comfort levels
Liked least: Situated on the road, although traffic noise wasn't too bad as it's not a busy road

We have just returned from The Guesthouse, where we stayed with our extended family for our son's wedding at nearby Matfen.

The Guesthouse comfortably accommodated twelve of us - thirteen when the sofa-bed in the front lounge was used. When further friends and family arrived they were happily accommodated in the equally lovely Roman Well and Dean Field Cottages close by on the farm.

Our numbers included a one year old, a two year old and a five year old so stair gates, high chairs and travel cots were helpfully provided. Dave, the owner, is to be highly commended for his patience and helpfulness.

The Guesthouse is comfortable, warm, full of character and equipped to a very high standard. The huge farmhouse kitchen is where everyone gathers, but there is plenty of space in the two lounges and snooker room for those who need their own space. There is also a delightful garden to enjoy in dry, warmer weather.

There are a vast number of Roman remains, English Heritage and National Trust properties to visit nearby as well as good walking along the route of Hadrian's Wall, which passes by the house (although nothing of the wall itself can be seen here).

Would we return to The Guesthouse? Absolutely! As soon as we can again gather enough people to fill it! Otherwise Roman Well and Dean Field Cottages also come highly recommended.

“Perfect stay!”

We have rented many holiday cottages but this was the best by a long way. Perfect in every way; very well equipped, comfortable, lots of space for a family group, and spotlessly clean.

“Happy family reunion.”
Reviewed 22 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Living in a different country and travelling back "home" to visit family is usually rushed and stressful,as we tend to stay with friends.Renting the guesthouse proved an excellent alternative.Lots of fantastic space both for us and family who came to visit.House was amazing both in size character and location.I would recommend friend to stay here ( and I have), especially if you have 4 or more people.

“Genuine 5 Star Experience. Great Location. Excellent Value.”

Where to begin?!
Stayed with my wife and family. Six adults and seven children in total.
Greeted on arrival by the owner Dave. Welcome provisions included milk, cereals, fruit juice and 3 bottles of wine!!
The property is to die for! A very large ancient farmhouse beautifully restored and decorated and furnished to the highest of standards. The kitchen is immense and equipped with everything you could think of including cooking range with a 5 ring induction hob.
With two lounges, snooker room and computer area there was plenty of room for everyone. WiFi broadband was included and was surprisingly good for a rural area.
Great location with lots to see within a 30 minute drive, including Newcastle, Corbridge, and Hexham.
If you are looking for a luxurious holiday for a large party I can recommend The Farmhouse without reservation.
