“Excellent hotel; amazing service in the Shark Bar; very good value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 March 2012

Brand new hotel overlooking St James Park so would imagine gets very busy on match days. Rooms a little on the small side and suffer from a little traffic noise. Wet room style bathroom does mean the whole bathroom gets wet. Beds very comfy. Shark bar is a loud sports bar with numerous TV's showing every sports channel. Wings/Ribs/Burgers style menu but very well done. Service is slick and provided by stunning young ladies in black uniforms that leave very very little to the imagination. So, good bar for the lads or business traveller but may not suit couples..............

Room Tip: Ask for one facing away from the Road / St James Pk - although these look like they are bigger and I...

I stayed at the Sandman Signature for a visit to the footie on Sunday, 18th March. The hotel isn't quite complete, although there is no sign of this to the guest. The team are very pleasant and helpful, and my other half appreciated the lovely ladies in the Shark bar. The bar is quite noisy though at night, so no nice cosy romantic restaurant in the evening. Same place for breakfast which is a very good food offer, and the music isn't quite so loud. I would say the Shark bar is a sports bar, given its proximity to the football ground and also the number of tv screens in every orifice showing events from aroung the globe. The food was good, wholesome food, the coffee though was horrible and I did mention this to the bar staff and reception, so hope its not so cringeworthy when I go back, which I will and several times! Location excellent whether for business, pleasure or the football...(not necessarily the same thing). There is airconditioning in the room, albeit I didn't find any instructions for this and seemed to be automatic... it was a little bit noisey in operation. Very comfortable bed, wetroom arrangement for the bathroom, power shower, and all one needs for a decent billet in the fine city of Newcastle Upon Tyne. Also the gym facility is to be completed, although there is a basic fitness room available at the moment. Also a couple of meeting rooms will be included in the final build.

Room Tip: Facing the stadium are probably more photogenic - they may all do so, not sure about that one. Ther...

I don't think I've ever been in a hotel where every member of staff you encounter is warm, friendly and can't do enough for you. From the moment we checked in to the moment we left we had the highest level of customer service.

The location is great, we were off to see Sarah Millican at the Tyne Theatre and only had a 10 minute stroll to the venue, it's also ideally placed for access to Eldon Square and not to mention looking out on to what will always be St. James Park.

The Shark Club bar has a great menu and atmosphere, we decided to have lunch in there and stayed and had a few afternoon drinks instead of shopping!

Room was nice and a nice pleasant change from the normal bland decor and the bathroom is wet room style with two choices of shower though not sure about the rill that is the plughole, it didn't seem to capture all the water.

We will certainly visit again.

One of the best hotels I have stayed in. I am very glad to have come across this hotel! It is modern, but very welcoming. Room was nice and bright, good lighting and a well equipped bathroom with an abundance of fluffy white towels! The bed was very comfortable with crisp white sheets and covers. The room contained a fridge and microwave great when arriving late and not wanting to go out and eat (just remember to bring plastic cutlery or you will have to use a teaspoon)! Staff were very helpful both on arrival and departure. I am not a Newcastle FC fan but I imagine it must be paradise if you are as my room overlooked St James Park. Will definetely stay here again when on business in Newcastle and I hope they open more of these hotels across the UK!

Room Tip: I was on 3rd floor and overlooked St James Park.....best room for a Newcastle FC fan!

I stayed in this hotel whilst over in England for a football match in Sunderland. The hotel is centrally located and directly across the road from St James Park stadium. It is handily situated close to both a metro station and a bus station.
The hotel itself is just 7 months open and from what I saw spotlessly clean inside. The foyer area is quirkily decorated with a full size horse replica as a lamp for starters....
We arrived at the hotel before 9am planning just to drop off our bags however they let us check in when we arrived which meant we could get freshened up before heading out for the day.
The room came with a mini kitchen, three tvs(!), a double bed, bunk beds and a beautiful spacious bathroom.
We took breakfast on the Sunday morning and there was a vast selection available from fry ups to fresh fruit, pancakes to croissants and beyond! One criticism would be that the breakfast was a little pricey at £12 a head.
The hotel staff were polite, friendly and courteous at all times and even arranged for our boarding passes to be printed out for us before our check out.
I will absolutely, definitely be back!!

Room Tip: Try and get a room at the front of the building as the view out the back is over a huge building sit...
