I often visit the Discovery museum in Newcastle because it has many interesting history of Newcastle upon Tyne dating back hundreds of years ago. Discovery museum is also free which is a bonus to the public. The museum also has a cafe which sells variety of cheap food and drinks. Each time I go to the museum I've always been greeted by the lovely staff who are happy to help with any questions etc. The gift shops sells variety of products which are interesting and also range in price. Can't wait until I go back to the museum.

Worth a look if you can do it. Only 5mins from central station. No fee but recommended donation £5.

Lots of Newcastle history.

Went for a visit to this SUPERB museum yesterday, and enjoyed it very much.
Staff were knowledgeable, exhibits well presentes and interesting, and lots of hands on thibgs to do.
A far cry from the boring, dusty old museums of our era. This is a great place to spend a few hours and learn about the area and seeing "Turbinia" the fastest experimental ship in the world of its era, that transformed ocean travel for ever with its 9 propellors was awesome.
Not to be missed.

Most of the historical exhibits in this museum may be much more interesting to the people of Newcastle than to visitors/tourists as they detail the specific city's passage through time and development. The science exhibits are fairly standard, with some interactive ones unfortunately not working. The war exhibits were intriguing as was the tank outside the museum.

This places gives a most comprehensive view of Tyneside and North East life through the ages, and for me is a place to re-visit repeatedly, taking a different floor each time. The top floor restaurant copes quite well during the busy periods (and is not too pricey). All exhibits are well presented - some are inter-active - but I found the odd corner, especially in the military gallery, too gloomy to allow easy reading of the items' descriptive labels where the print font, size and contrast could be improved considerably.
