We booked this hotel for seven nights for dinner bed and breakfast . We drove 347 miles from Canterbury to Seaton Burn. We were looking forward to a decent dinner. Having scrutinised the menu we were very happy we had chosen the DBB package as the prices seemed quite high. The whole meal was disappointing both in taste and presentation. The restaurant , which I understand is due to be refurbished lacked any ambience whatsoever. The wooden surround of the tables was imbedded with food and felt sticky.
We were given the bill at the end of our meal , and it was explained that we had gone slightly over our allowance, which apparently was £23 (each) At no time was an allowance mentioned when we made the booking, nor in the receipt emailed to us. However , this was dealt with quite efficiently by the duty manager who agreed that we had not been informed of these terms and conditions when booking and increased our daily allowance which we were quite happy with.
Our room was clean and spacious and the bathroom , although small was adequate. We had lovely views to the rear of the hotel overlooking their grounds. No complaints !
We planned a day touring Seahouses and Beadnell the next day. We had breakfast at about 0840 when one would expect the food to be fresh. We both had the full English breakfast. My husbands fried egg was so rubbery he could not cut it. The rest of the food I.e. bacon sausages etc. Looked like they had been there a while!
We were disappointed but thought maybe things would improve. The day went from bad to worse. I developed the most awful stomach cramps whilst driving to seahouses. For the rest of the day upto 4pm I had to be close to a bathroom. Sorry to be graphic but it is necessary .
We returned to the hotel and because I still felt a bit wobbly decided to have dinner in our room. My husband had a steak baguette ( looked most unappetising ) followed by Apple crumble and custard. He could not slice the crumble with a knife ! This was replaced with Apple tart which was ok.
I had chicken Caesar salad. Tasted o.k but presentation was awful. At this point we decided we could not risk another meal cooked in this hotel and decided to leave the next morning.
We could not recommend this hotel to anyone and we will never stay there again.

Stayed: September 2018

Dear jackiejay999

We are sorry to read your review and the points that you have made.

It is concerning to read that you could not "risk" another meal at the hotel. We take our food safety extremely serious and have been awarded 5 stars by our local environmental health officer for our standards within the kitchen.

It is disappointing to read that you will not return to our property, but we do hope that you will continue to use our brand in the near future.

Kind regards
Guest relations manager

We stayed one night whilst visiting Newcastle. We chose this hotel because of it’s location in it’s name. But rather like Stansted is to London this hotel is a good 20 minutes north of Newcastle and nowhere near Gosforth which again it’s name implies. It is in fact nearer Seaton Burn.

An expensive stay in an anodyne environment. No character at all at this location. We However the staff were friendly and efficient. We chose to eat in the centre of Newcastle as the restaurant looked uninviting. It was a sterile environment as was reinforced when we took breakfast the following morning.

We would not go back.

I'm writing this review at 0330 in the morning as I've been disturbed by a loud noise. The noise sounds like an extractor running, probably for the leisure facilities. If I was staying for another night I would be asking to move rooms or I would check into another hotel. I'm sure the noise isn't heard throughout the hotel and there must quiet rooms somewhere. The hotel itself is nice and staf friendly, helpful and professional.
