“Excellent Little Cottage”
Reviewed 29 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013

We stayed for a week and upon arrival were met by Maria our host. The cottage was very clean and very warm. The groceries, wine and home made cake were very much appreciated and we would strongly recommend this cottage to anyone.

“Bring your own toilet roll”

Booking by e-mail easy but owner didn't send directions or key collection details until I contacted her 2 days before we went.

Property clean & fairly new (approx 2 years old by reviews in visitors book). Very close to owners house but in a quiet location. Next door to The Fox, a really excellent pub where visitors are made very welcome.

"Welcome pack" provided included cake & wine but only 3 teabags, 2 dishwasher tablets & half a toilet roll. When I asked if we could have another toilet roll a few days later we were told 'it's only meant to be a starter' so we had to make a special trip to the supermarket. Just what I like to do on holiday! Fair enough if the description makes it clear in advance what is provided, but with cottages of this price we've found basics are supplied these days. Didn't invest in more dishwasher tablets, so benefit of having a dishwasher was wasted on us.

Worst part of the cottage was the uncomfortable mattress. It looked good quality but is in terrible shape if it's as new as the cottage. Surprised to see it described as comfortable by previous reviewers as there is a ridge down the middle and sags down at each side making turning over very difficult! Some heavy people must have slept on it! My husband said it's probably the most uncomfortable he's ever slept on and he's got shoulder pain to prove it, which he didn't have when we went.

Would go back to the area which is lovely for hill walking, visiting historic towns, NT properties etc, but not to these cottages.

Management Response
2 Oct 2013
Most guests find directions through Google map or SatNav, we replied immediately with directions when you asked us. We are always here to greet our guests. Our cottages are self catering accommodation, but guests will find everything they need for the first day, details of the cottage indicate dishwasher available, all guests come prepared with all items they need including dishwasher tablets and toilet paper.
Welcome pack is a gift. We never had any complaints about the bed.
Sorry we could not satisfy you

“Lovely cottage not far from Shrewsbury”
Reviewed 2 September 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We had a lovely stay in this cottage. It's lovely and clean and well presented. Kitchen is well stocked if you want to cook, or there is a good pub serving food near by. Maria was very welcoming (as well as Hector the dog) and provided us with a lovely cake and bottle of wine. We found all the local people very friendly and it was an ideal base to go walking from or explore Shrewsbury and Ludlow. It's a nice quiet location but with amenities close at hand if you need them.

“Smart, comfortable and convenient”
Reviewed 5 July 2013 for a stay in June 2013

We were very pleased with our stay at Wisteria. The purpose-built accommodation has 3 rooms (living/kitchen, bathroom, bedroom plus hall) all good sizes with enough storage space. The furnishings are good quality, comfortable bed, spotlessly clean.

The pair of semi-detached units are in the owner's large garden and stand apart from their main house.

We were welcomed with a home made cake, bottle of wine, milk and a selection of coffee/tea sachets. Maria, the owner, was available for any help we might have needed.

The house stands in a small attractive village with half a mile of quiet, narrow lanes. Never a problem passing a vehicle, coming from the SE England we were impressed with how friendly everyone was; be prepared to wave to everyone you pass ;-)

Located just south of Shrewsbury, Ryton is well situated to visit the many attractions including castles, gardens, historic ruins and towns. If you are agile enough we can recommend the nearby 3-hour Long Mynd walk (NT, Carding Mill Valley) on a fine day
