Whilst Reading's road network may leave you a little worse for wear by the time you arrive, this hotel will not dissapoint. It is immaculately clean from the moment you enter the spacious and modern looking foyer. The staff were friendly throughout and the room was all you could want. Ok, the drinks and rooms are not cheap - but book in advance and it won't cost the earth compared to the standard of some other hotels, and it is worth including breakfast in your room rate as it is very good, but expensive if paying seperately.

All in all, a great base for the local area and right by the train station so just 30 minutes to London.

Stayed at the Novotel in Reading for one night. Myself and my Mum decided to have a night away somewhere not too far away, but still close enough for a short trip (we live in Oxford)
Arrived at the train station and it took minutes to walk to the hotel. Arrived at 10.30am and were told our room was available! Fantastic. Room bright and airy, was on floor 12. Not the most glamorous of views, but was interesting to watch the trains in the distance come in and out of the station. Lovely bed, nice sofa, working tv, tea/coffee making facilities with Twinings and Nescafe sachets. Bathroom spotless. Loved the design of the sink! Paid for a buffet breakfast, which was fantastic. Bacon, eggs, sausages, toast, hash browns, juices, strong black coffee, tea and then the usual continental products such as cereal, fruit, yoghurt, croissants etc. All staff we encountered greeted us politely. Would most definitely return!!

I arrived at the hotel late in the evening and have to admit that initially I found the road network around Reading to be confusing to say the least. Thankfully I dashed into the hotel and the man working behind reception was immediately very helpful. He grabbed a map from the desk , took a copy before showing me how to get to the car park and sending me on my way. I felt this was great customer service, and to be fair that continued throughout my entire stay.

The hotel car park is gated which offers a little extra security but as mentioned in other reviews it can be a little cramped. This really isn't the fault of the hotel as it's largely due to the fact that it's a basement parking lot. When I visited the car park was almost empty so it wasn't a big problem and I found parking quite easy, but I fully appreciate that at peak times it could be a challenge to get parked there and it would take some care. That said there's an NPC Car Park immediately opposite the rear of the hotel which, whilst slightly more expensive, offers ample parking.

My room was clean and bright with good lighting. Facilities wise it had everything I could possibly want, with TV, bath, shower and a seperate toilet. There was even a cable which I could connect my iPod to in order to have music play through the TV - not a big deal but a nice touch none the less.

The breakfast provided was a little more expensive than i'm used to paying but i'd say it's probably comparable to most hotels in the south of the UK. Service at breakfast was absolutely superb and it was nice to be asked where I wanted to sit instead of being hidden in the corner which is what usually happens when you're travelling alone. The quality of food at breakfast was also excellent with a good selection on offer.

I only dined in the hotel bar on one of the evenings but again I felt the service was excellent and the food was of a high standard. Price wise it was very reasonable.

In summary i'd highly recommend this hotel. They have some excellent staff who deliver a very high level of service. Price wise it's extremely reasonable to the quality you receive. I would certainly say here again and will be recommending it to my colleagues who may also be travelling to the area for training.

This hotel short walk from Reading railway station, handy for the Oracle shopping centre and other central Reading shops.

The rooms are cleanly furnished, with flat screen televisions. There are some premium channels in the rooms (Sky One) and the television can be used for music playback (Bose Sound Docks are in Executive Rooms only)

The bathroom is separated into two areas, with the toilet near the entry door, and then a bathroom with shower cubical, bath and really funky wave shaped sink. I'm not sure about the separate toilet as it has no hand washing facilities, and I start to think about people who may not have washed their hands.

The rooms were quiet, with very little sound from the other rooms. Room service was prompt, though the food was only competent, not exceptional.

The staff on the front desk were charming and helpful, managing to 'welcome me back' without it seeming like they'd read my details from the screen.
