The only downside with the Magdalen Arms is that it's really popular and can get a bit crowded and noisy, but that's the price of success I suppose. We stopped in for a drink and it was as it ever is - smart, friendly and overall very pleasant.

I had a delicious 12 hour slow cooked shoulder of lamb shared with friends, it came with some tasty dauphinois potatoes and picked red cabbage. The shoulder arrived on a platter in its own gravy and braised vegetables. Great beer and coffee and super friendly staff. I would highly recommend

Mouth wateringly delicious rib of beef. Great presentation for a sharing plattter and the best sunday pub lunch i have ever eaten.

Only negative is i agree with previous comments that the pub is too dark. Paint the walls magnolia please and I'll give you 6 stars.

Nice pub restaurant. Fairly open inside, with wooden tables. You can see right into the Kitchen, the pass is in the open restaurant area. I love this, a restaurant with nothing to hide !

We went on the monthly market day, when the outside of the pub has little bric-a-brac stalls, with furniture and other items.

The food was good. Special of the day was a braised Dexter Beef which was tender and tasty, although the green beans served with it were undercooked and very firm.

The ginger pudding for desert was light and delicious.

Service was attentive throughout, with bread and olive oil provided quickly, with bottles of tap water too, all without asking.

The only negative was that is was quite dark inside, even at lunchtime, sitting right next to a window. That was partly from the gazebos for the Market stalls outside, a bit more light would have been nice.

Great to see named breeds of beef on the menu, it suggests good attention to the produce.

Overall, a good lunch, with great menu choices and excellent service.
