This is a very modest house for a very wealthy man. Set out as it would be in the thirties it is not exceptional as a building but the story of Lord Nuffield’s life is very unusual and is told well by the guides. As stated by other visitors I would have liked to learn more about the motor car side of his life in addition to his philanthropy.

Was left feeling that Nuffield College’s White Elephant had been transferred to the National Trust.
Interesting aspects - Lutyens-style brickwork and some windows reminiscent of Hampstead Garden Suburb; Gloriously 1930s tiling and bathroom fittings, authentically horrifying iron lung, but somehow a hollow experience.
The former Huntercombe Borstal is adjacent to the car park, with high wire fences etc. According to one of the house guides it’s now a prison!
The public road to the property is very potholed.
Definitely not child-friendly.

We visited on a very miserable day unfortunately so didn't look around the garden and outside areas as much as we would have liked. We found the house very interesting and the guides were excellent and knowledgeable. I would have liked a little more information regarding the motor industry side of his life.

Visited today with friends, our second visit. Once again an interesting house with helpful and informative room staff, but the tearoom.........oh dear, uncleared tables, dirty cups which had to be replaced, poor service, certainly one of the poorest NT tea rooms we have been to....not improved since our visit last year. NT this is something that needs to be attended to........

Second visit to the house but first visit to the tea room, still enjoyed looking around and learnt even more about this fascinating man and his family and would recommend to anybody that this is a worthwhile national trust property, the tea room however is a disgrace, very small, all tables dirty and not cleared of crockery, overcooked scones, cold sausage rolls, could not have a ham sandwich as apparently the ham was still frozen!
This is the worst NT cafe we have ever encountered and let's the rest of the visit down.
