Owner description: Visit Roman Vindolanda today and you will find one of the North East’s most famous and not to be missed tourist attractions lying in the beautiful landscape of Hadrian's Wall Country. Formerly a key military post on the northern frontier of Britain, Vindolanda is the home of Britain's 'Top Treasure' - the Vindolanda Writing Tablets - and is one Europe's most important Roman archeological sites, with live excavations taking place every year. The recently fully refurbished on site museum provides a breathtaking exploration of the Trust's ongoing discoveries and accounts of Roman life. There are no other places on earth where it is possible to experience Roman Britain, Hadrian's Wall and history coming to life before your very eyes all in one space! Come and explore it for yourself and find out why Vindolanda is treasured worldwide.

It must be the best place to get an insight of the life and work of the Romans. It’s a very interesting site with ongoing archeological excavations. Makes it a really vibrant place.

This Roman fort it extremely worth the visit especially as a joint ticket with the nearby Roman Army museum.
There are areas which are still be excavated on the site but what is already uncovered is hugely impressive and better than most other roman sites I have been to. It's fantastic to actually get a proper feel for the lay out of a typical Roman fort and associated town. A particular highlight (having gone with a 2 and 4 year old) was the re-created sections of wall and look out towers in wood and stone. This was great for the kids pretending they were 'King of the castle' but also gave a great idea of what Hadrians wall would have actually been like in it's prime.
Parking was easy with plenty of space and the staff on site were very friendly and helpful.

Wow, this is a brilliant venue and for any of those interested in Roman History, this Museum & Archaeological site is a must do.

Having visited the Roman Forum, Pompeii, the Colosseum and Lullingstone Roman Villa this venue matches & then beats many of these venues.

The ruins themselves are very well presented & it is excellent that you can walk amongst them. My favourite elements were the Roman Bath as well as the recreated Roman look out turret.

The museum is very well presented with a brilliant range of artefacts, information posts as well as exhibits. The main highlight in this venue was the Vindolanda tablets (recovered pieces of Roman letters to loved ones/Cesar).

I also very much enjoyed the well decorated, reasonably priced and home cooked food in the Cafe.

We also purchased a couple of gifts in the reasonably priced gift shop.

This is a must visit for those in the region!

I now have a greater appreciation of how our lives have been influenced by the Romans. It is so interesting to see the ruins and have an idea of who occupied the area 1,000s of years ago. The site is exposed,so I would recommend to wrap up when visiting and wear walking shoes. We bought a joint ticket with the Roman army museum, which is excellent value for money. There is a lot for children of any age to do. The cafe on site is great.

Fantastic place to visit. If you are a Roman History Fan this is for you. Truely amazing things to see and touch. Great for kids as well.
Cold day when we visited and the hill is very open so wrap up well! Walking boots/shoes are recommended as you are walking over grass and small stones..can even climb on the walls if you wish!
Cafe was lovely. Good coffee and food. Clean and comfortable.
Museum great. Watch out for the new finds!!
Shop with souvenirs as expected.
Helen the young lady at the entrance needs a mention. What a lovely knowledgeable lady she is! Full of enthusiasm and obviously loves her job!
Will definitely return very soon!
