The Charles Bathurst Inn

The CB Inn is set in a superb location in the heart of Arkengarthdale. Only a short distance away the village of Reeth is a well-known centre for outdoor activities (especially walking) in Swaledale, - though, of course, Arkengarthdale itself lends itself to walking amongst some splendid scenery.

We found the CB Inn to be very welcoming in all respects, - friendly staff, cosy public rooms (including a roaring log fire in the bar area), and comfortable bedrooms.
Our own bedroom (our family used two other double bedrooms as well) had a large comfortable double bed and all the amenities you could want. And when we opened the curtains in the morning there were those gorgeous views outside the window!

All meals (breakfast and dinners) were of excellent quality, served by attentive staff. As our stay was a celebration of an significant family occasion this was very important. We were delighted to be served excellent food, and in the evening were drinking fine wine as well in convivial surroundings.

All-in-all, a wonderful weekend and we fully intend to return before too long.

Room Tip: Room 11 looks out both across Arkengarthdale and down the valley. Wonderful views!

Stayed here in November as we were attending Scouting for Girls Concert at Tan Hill Inn which was full, really pleased it was as the fact we stayed at CBI made the weekend an adventure!! We used the taxi driver recommended to us by hotel for getting to and from Tan Hill Inn, although it was snowing heavily he got us there and back safely, albeit the 8 miles took 40 minutes. We loved sitting in the bar with the locals, roaring fire, enjoying an afternoon drink. Room was large and clean, nice touch of a jar of homemade biscuits. We ate at the pub on three evenings and on each occasion the food was excellently cooked and plentiful. Breakfast was a leisurely affair and again food was fresh and cooked well. Great walking from doorstep, walked all day on Saturday and really enjoyed the beautiful scenery. If going to another concert at Tan Hill Inn would not hesitate to book again.

Me and the family took opportunity of a room deal to get away for the night even though we live not far away, meaning could have a few pints without breaking the bank.
Room massive and was ideal with 2 futons for the kids. Fresh milk in the residents lounge. Great warm fire and pleasant bar area, also pool area has a toy selection which is great for the kids.
Food was pretty decent really esp liked the chocolat/sultana parfait desert (an early bird menu is particularly good value) and the breakfast was excellent too.
Hope to come again at some point as the location is truly stunning but the CB hits the mark for me.

We stayed here as we were attending an event at the Tan Hill as they were fully booked. Fab location for the Tan hill with it being only 8 miles away. Although when the snow hit it seemed like forever.

We arrived and were shown to our room. A lot of stairs so not suitable for people that struggle with stairs. Very clean and tidy room. Clean bathroom and coffee/tea making facility's with fresh milk in a fridge in the hallway.

We wanted a table for dinner before we headed to our event and we could only get one for 545pm as at 6pm most tables had been taken. We were placed in the dining room away from the bar on our own with all the tables around us being booked at 6pm. By 625 the tables were still empty. The menu was limited at this time to the early bird which had a few dishes to choice from and I chose steak which was average. Slightly fatty and tough to cut. It came with a tomato and mushroom salsa which wasn't listed on the menu. I don't like mushrooms. The beans weren't cooked enough and the chips were hot but still needed another 10 minutes or so.

The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

Breakfast was continental and an option of cooked food. Just what was needed after a late night at the Tan Hill Inn.

Overall, a very picturesque pub with great views and a cosy feeling whilst sat at the bar enjoying a drink.

Amazing pub in the middle of the Dales National Park. Squishy sofas, roaring fires, great food, wonderful staff. What more do you want? Stayed for two nights with friends and our dogs. Fantastic place. Will stay again.
