“Nice romantic getaway”

My partner and I spent two nights here just after Christmas and we weren't disappointed. Car parking is tight but you leave your keys at reception and they will juggle the cars around for you so you're not blocked in when you're ready to leave. The room was fantastic, roll top bath, awesome four poster bed, and the general feel of the place was relaxing and well, boutique! Breakfast was amazing (I've stayed in a lot of 4* hotels that don't even come close) and the lounge area was great to just sit, relax, have a glass of wine and pretend the mansion was yours! Short walk and you're into York city walls, we couldn't have asked for a better weekend.

Room Tip: The hotel sells out quickly but I've heard there are a few quite small rooms so worth asking fir...

just got home from a 4 night stay in room 503, which is advertised as executive double but priced as a petite double, we think that should be minute double the room was far too small and was very claustrophobic there was a gap of about 2 foot between the bottom of the bedstead and the wall there was barely enough room to get through, but the only other option was to climb over the bed everytime we need to get ot the other side of the room, don't be mislead by the lovely picture on the website with a spacious room with a lovely wooden seat at the bottom of the bed. On arrival we were shown to our room, we were quite disapointed as we expected more from a 4 star establishment, the bedside lamps were covered in dust and the decorative cushions on the beds were dirty, stained, torn and generally shabby. there was the tiniest corner cabinet that we asumed was a wardrobe, this was not big enough to store all our clothes for our stay so we had to squash them up to get them in and 1 of the drawer fronts was broken. The "handmade matress" is the most uncomfortable thing we've ever slept on, i would rather have comfort and a good nights sleep than be impressed because i'm sleeping on an handmande matress. on our 2nd day we were left a new supply of toiletries, but the shower gel was only about a third full, we suspect this had been recycled from another room, on the third day the room wasn't even cleaned just some clean towels dumped outside the room door
On the website it states that the rooms have a safe, room 503 doesn't.

on the upside, the breakfast was lovely and the lady that served us very pleasant and polite

i would rate this hotel as 2/3 star definately not a 4, we have stayed at 4 star which are far superior to this, i can see what the management are trying to do but they are failing on attention to detail

All i can say is thank god York has so much to offer, as it meant we could spend as little time there as possible

Stayed here for the Ebor Races last August and couldn't fault this Hotel.
It is a short walk into York, and we were surprised when we arrived at just how big the Attic Suite was, It was huge, like a big flat.
The bathroom was so big it had it's own Sauna (which we sadly didn't have time to use) and a lovely big bath and twin showers and sinks.
The bed was Comfy and there was a separate dressing area to the bedroom, as well as a large living room too, It is big enough for 4 I'm sure.
I would definitely recommend this place, and we may go back again this year.

Room Tip: Definitely go for the Attic Suite

This hotel is the sister hotel of The Guy Fawkes Inn in York. My b/f and i had booked to stay at The Guy Fawkes Inn however they had messed up our resevation and didn't have any rooms left to accommodate us. Luckily their sister hotel Marmadukes did have availability and so they sent us there with an upgraded room and a free drink at the Guy Fawkes Inn when we returned for our dinner.

Marmadukes is a lovely hotel, with friendly staff. It's a good 15-20 minute walk to York center though. The bedroom was ok, a bit oldy-worldy which wasn't to my taste (old furniture makes me feel uneasy!) and you couldn't see the TV once you got in bed as the bars on the (four poster) bed got in the way! The main hotel where the reception is situated is much nicer however we had a good sleep and we were able to request a late check-in with no extra cost which was great.

Breakfast was excellent, well worth getting out of bed for! Overall, another lovely stay in York.

Just returned from 2 nights stay at Marmadukes and overall it was a very pleasant stay. Marmadukes is situated in a good location not too far from the city, breakfast was superb, staff were friendly and room was beautiful. Only a few niggles, although the room was very nice it was a little on the small side, the bed felt as if it was on its last legs every time you moved it creaked quite loudly, although we were extremely happy we had a bath we suggest some form of shower curtain as its pretty impossible to not drench the entire bathroom when having a wash and lastly the tv would not change from bbc1 no matter how we followed the instructions on how to work the tv carefully we were stuck with bbc1 and also the tv was a little obstructed by the dvd cabinet. Very much recommend Marmadukes and we would definitely return.
