“Exactly what we expected”
Reviewed 16 July 2012 for a stay in June 2012

My husband and I traveled with my sister and brother in law from Michigan. We were looking for a place that had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and was conveniently located. I had done a lot of research, and this apartment seemed ideal. I was looking for accommodations that had a little more personality than a chain hotel. I have to admit to being somewhat nervous dealing with a privately owned property, but in the end, I had nothing to fear. Chris, the owner, was responsive and answered all of my questions in a timely manner.

When we arrived, we were delighted to find that it looked exactly as it had on the website. There was also a washer/dryer in the kitchen, and that was a welcome bonus since we were midway through our two week trip to the UK. The location could not have been better. We could easily walk to everything we wanted to see.

The apartment is situated on the River Ouse, and I loved the view when we first arrived. There we boats going back and forth, and there was a pleasant level of activity without being too noisy. However, it had been raining a great deal, and the river quickly began to rise. This is apparently not uncommon. Within a day, the river had flooded the surrounding areas, causing us some concern because our car was parked under the building. We asked a tenant if we should move our car, and he said no, because it is a fairly new apartment block, and the garage area is sealed for the most part. While the garage next door was completely flooded, ours was dry. It would have been helpful if there was some information in the apartment regarding this issue, and when people renting the place should be concerned about the flooding.

Otherwise, our stay in York was wonderful, and I would not hesitate to call Chris and rent his apartment again.

“Great location”

This is a super appartment with a great view of the river and parts of the city - Clifford's Tower and the Minster - there is always something going on to watch. It is close to the centre but quiet enough and nearby Micklegate is a lively area with shops, restaurants and a choice of pubs.
We visited York with our aged parents who found the lift very welcome, although the stairs were no big deal. Secure parking so close to the town centre was a bonus and we walked to the city sights daily. Getting out of the city was also easy on the days we went further afield.

“Excellent Accommodation - Excellent Position”
Reviewed 20 October 2011 for a stay in October 2011

We arrived and everything was smooth and to plan, we met the cleaner who showed us to our car parking space. From then on in we never saw the car until we went home. The appartment was spotless, had everything you could want.

The position was fantastic, near town (5 minute walk) but far enough away if you want a little bit of peace.

I would recommend this to anyone

“Lovely apartment with stunning river/city view”
Reviewed 13 October 2011 for a stay in September 2011

When we visited, the apartment was clean, tidy and provided excellent accommodation and facilities. The owner greeted us on arrival to hand over the key and showed us around - and provided a welcome bottle of wine. The apartment is not large but it suited three of us and would probably have been comfortable with four. The second bedroom is quite small for two, but adequate for a short stay such as ours (3 nights). We would certainly like to return. The secure car parking for one car in the basement is an important feature. Fortunately there were lots of empty bays while we were there so manoevering around was not a problem. If full it would be very tight- and it's important not to park in the wrong one because you might get clamped. (They are numbered.) We really enjoyed our stay, particularly the proximity to the city centre with all its facilities and interest. If you get a chance, try the Olive Tree restaurant near Clifford's Tower. It's excellent.
But back to the apartment. The view from the balconies, day and night, really made it. Don't take my word for it. Try it out. You won't regret it.

“Excellent accommodation within easy walking distance to city”
Reviewed 4 October 2011 for a stay in September 2011

I was looking on the internet for an apartment for 3 days in York and found 44 Emperor's Wharf. Well we could not have asked for more. The apartment is furnished to a very high standard and the beds and bedding are the best I have ever experienced in a holiday apartment. No scimping there!!
Every room was spotless and there was absolutely every utensil and appliance one could ever need.
Well done Alison and Chris, we will certainly be back and have already recommended the apartment to friends and family.
We look forwared to our next visit.
