Stayed here on a sat night, room was lovely with a fantastic view of the Minster. Girl on Reception was lovely, she directed us in when we got lost. Ate in the restaurant which was stunning, the chef quite clearly loves what he does. The restaurant room was very intimate, it did help that it was snowing but what a view out of the 3 arched windows. Only small complaint was that there was a wedding disco on which was loud in our room but finished at midnight. Would definitely stay again, Highly recommended
Got a good deal for this hotel through laterooms at the last minute on business in York. Room seemed fine at first glance but only one window which was a velux roof window that needed some complicated manipulation using a stick provided. Main issue was the central heating which was through a noisy air vent that could not be closed or temperature manipulated - led to a poor nights sleep. Didnt have breakfast this time - from memory of a previous stay it was ok. You will also be charged a fee for using a credit card.
I loved this hotel, we were upgraded to a lovely room with a 4 poster bed, ideal location it was a short walk into York, the staff I came in contact with were very friendly. The breakfast was very nice, the hotel, bar area and restaurant was nicely decorated. I really enjoyed my stay and wished it had been longer than 1 night hope to go back in the summer.
From walking through the door to leaving with a satisfying breakfast inside us, the service could not have been better. The staff were lovely and polite, something you don't often find any more. The luxury room (10 downing suite... brilliant) was great, really comfortable and modern with a nice en suite, and the breakfast in the morning was in a very eloquent rear room with a huge choice (my only disappointment of the whole stay was bottling it and not having the eggs benedict). I would certainly go back, without hesitation, and look forward to using this hotel again.
Stayed here for one night with a Living Social voucher. We paid an extra £40 to upgrade to a luxury room, but were very disappointed when we saw how small the room was. We had the Jenny suite - it was beautifully decorated with a lovely high ceiling, but there was not much space around the bed and after reading the description on the website of the luxury rooms we were expecting something a little more spectacular. A couple of other niggles, such as having to request the included bath robes and chocolates as they were not in the room, and the towel rail in the bathroom was also turned off with no obvious way of turning it on yourself. Also there was a room service breakfast form and comments card in the room but no pen, which isn't the biggest thing in the world but did indicate lack of attention to detail.
On the plus side, the staff were very helpful. There was a wedding taking place when we arrived and therefore the car park was completely full, but a helpful gentleman (I believe he was the manager) requested a member of staff remove their car so we could park. The breakfast was delicious and the hotel itself is very clean and nicely decorated. Brilliant location as well.
All in all, it was good value for the money we paid, but we would have been very unhappy if we had paid full price.
