Kids love this place “wow they are sooo big “ talking about the trains .
My son had just done about Stevenson rocket at school, so he was amazed that it was there .
So many things to do , with interactive talks, steam train to go on .
4 hrs later , time just flys by here .

As my teenage daughters get older it gets harder to entertain them. However we visited the train museum today and they enjoyed it. I visited myself as a child and regardless of your interest there is plenty to see. The staff were running talks, craft things for the younger children. Considering it is free to get in, they haven't spared any expense & we enjoyed it.

I probably have my rose tinted specs on when I remember coming here as a kid. It's not as good as I remember it.
Although the museum is free; the car park across the road is a bit pricey.

After about an hour and a half, the novelty of seeing a few old trains up close had worn off and my daughter was getting a little bored.

There's not much to do at all. It is very much a "look, don't touch" kind of place. It really doesn't take very long to have a look around and so to round off the trip there is a gift shop. There are a few items with the prices bumped up a bit but nothing really special.

It could really do with some interactive exhibits. Anything to keep children entertained would be good.

It's worth the trip if you're a train enthusiast or are nearby but it wasn't really worth the two hours (in each direction) along the M62.

Fantastic day out for our children aged four and two, they loved the science show (thanks Sean - get there 10 mins early though) and storytelling (thanks Ollie), surprising lack of queuing everywhere considering it was a rainy day in the Easter holidays. Dining Car restaurant was fine for a quick meal. Great that entry is free and even with charges for activities (£10 family ticket on the miniature railway, £3 a ticket for the very short steam train ride) it’s also a good value day out. Excellent shop too, fully lived up to its reputation
