We spent three nights over a weekend in early January 2018 at the Dean Court Hotel. I had originally booked a different hotel, but really wanted to stay more central and to have a view of the Minster, so I changed our reservation to a prepaid one to save money and booked a deluxe room with a Minster view, and I am so glad we did this.
We arrived around lunchtime on Friday after coming from London by train. We intended to walk to the hotel, but when we saw all the cobbles and thought about our wheeled luggage, we decided on a taxi. It was only a few short minutes from the station.
We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a small suite, Room No. 15. I think it was called the Holgate Suite. While not huge rooms, they were totally beautiful, a separate bedroom with a very comfortable bed, and a lounge room with comfy chairs and a table, extensive tea and coffee facilities and a bay window with amazing views of the Minster and gardens. Sitting their sipping a glass of wine and listening to the Minster bells pealing was a wonderful experience.

The staff could not have been more helpful, the wifi worked perfectly and breakfast was delicious. What else do you need in a hotel? My only minor complaint was that the breakfast room was far too hot for our tastes. Our first morning we were seated by the window, again with that spectacular view, but within a few minutes felt far too warm. We then realised that every window seat had a heater under it, and although we were only in jeans and short sleeved tops, it was far too hot. This seemed to be a personal thing however, as lots of other people seemed happily seated whilst wrapped up in jumpers and scarves! We found that moving to a table in the middle of the room solved this very minor problem, and hey, we had that wonderful view from our own room anyway, so it was a good opportunity to share it around.
If we are ever lucky enough to visit York again, we will certainly stay at Dean Court, as well as recommending it to any family and friends to might visit.More
