Top floor apartment which wasn't a problem for us. Decent location, 10 mins walk up the hill out of town. Cosy with nice views over the abbey out of the Velux. Comfy bed and nice bath. Dog friendly and nice owner.
Drawbacks are that there's only one small sofa to sit on and a completely useless Chaise long, so one of us sat on the floor. Odd sized wine glasses and no sharp paring knife. Bathroom light was annoying as we kept walking into it. Overall though, a nice stay.
Just returned from 5 night break. The accommodation was fine. Bed linen and towels very fresh (wasn't expecting towels so nice surprise). Apartment was spotlessly clean. Heating system great. Never without hot water although do have to let hot tap in kitchen run for a little for it to come through. The views were lovely out of the Windows. Being able to see the Abbey and Theres a resident seagull in his nest on the roof as you look out the lounge window. Just a 2 minute walk to start of Cinder Trail to Robins Bay, worth a visit, we walked there but did get bus back. The bathroom looks recently fitted, spotlessly clean but i hadn't realised what hard work it was going to be to have a shower the way the roof inclines. You have to go up 5 flights of stairs to get to this apartment and the last one is the steepest. Even our dog found it tough although she is 12! We found the apartment quite compact. The kitchen was well equipped but cramped when sat around table. The brown leather settee was comfortable for one but did find other sofa quite hard and uncomfortable. The wi-fi wasn't great but didn't have a problem with this as 4G worked just fine. When watching itv on the tele the signal wasn't great, we ended up just playing music for the majority of our stay which we were happy with. We couldn't find any hooks to hang jackets on, but on morning of leaving found some under shelf of wardrobe in bedroom. The walk to town only takes 8-10 minutes, very steep. Road works are going on, on the crossroads right outside the apartment. They started 11th April 16 and due to run for 12 weeks. They start drilling at 8am and stop 5pm mon-fri only. Can cause some traffic issues. Thanks Carol for letting us use one of the free spaces to park on our last day.
High at the top of a Victorian house accessed by a couple of flights of stairs, a smashing one bedroom apartment. Through our room door and up our own private staircase into an exceptionally clean and lovely space in which to relax for our stay. We could spread out in a pleasant bedroom, with a separate bathroom and separate living room/kitchen diner. So delighted to find somewhere that allowed us to take our dog that didn't smell of previous doggie visitors! We had views from all the Velux windows, including the abbey and the sea. We visited in mid February and were warm and snug throughout our stay. The apartment was quiet, with no traffic noise, despite the initial impression of the property being on a busy road. As clearly explained in the owners' write-up there is no dedicated parking space for this flat, but it was easy to find a space down the road (about 30 yards away). We felt high above the world, loving the sound of the seagulls in the morning and our sense of privacy. A comfy double bed, simply furnished throughout, WIFI, all the necessities in the kitchen and good basic information for guests, also not over-bearing in terms of rules. The ceiling light in the bathroom is indeed low, and could surely be wall-mounted, but this apartment is in the eaves with angled ceilings - all part of its charm and character. A genuine 8-10 minutes stroll downhill to the seafront, and a (steeper) 15 minutes up-hill walk home. The owners were quick to respond to queries, efficient, friendly and really helpful from start to finish. Our overall impression was excellent value for money for the location - eg, no extra charges for the dog, faultlessly clean and tidy, snug and welcoming. Next time we visit Whitby, this will definitely be our first choice.
Had a super time in Whitby, the apartment was easy to find, we parked on the road down the hill on the left hand. Key lock/instructions were spot on. We stayed in apartment 4 on the top floor, the flight of stairs from the 2nd floor door is extremely steep the steps are tiny so could be very dangerous after a few drinks or for the elderly and unfit! However it was great for us and what we needed. The only "issue" we had was the light in the bathroom.... its between the sink and the toilet and very low down and its a glass light shade - my partner who is 6ft constantly walked into it and I am 5ft7 I also bumped my head on numerous occasions - I was petrified of breaking it! Other than that just perfect for what we needed - clean/tidy/everything we needed. THANK YOU for letting us stay and hopefully we will see you next year.
Cooks Cabin was a great base for exploring the area. It was well equipped and had everything we needed for our short stay. The only negative was the globe light in the bathroom which my husband kept banging his head on and he isn't particularly tall. Low ceilings so tall people beware.
