We had heard about this Bistro on a blog and thought we'd give it a try as we were in Whitby for the day. Whitby was mad busy and Sanders Yard was perfect - very close to the main Street in the old town but quiet and full of character. We sat outside with two dogs. The food was excellent as was the service and we even popped back later that afternoon for cake to go. Highly recommended. Next time we are in Whitby this is the place to eat for us.

We had two nights in the attic as a start of a holiday in Yorkshire. In a lovely location, very clean and nicely decorated, great breakfast what more could you ask for?

If there is a downside it is the only parking is in open public car parks a 10 minute walk away, however we had no problem.

Beautifully and tastefully decorated, stayed in the Jade attic room which is big enough for a couple and couple of small kids. Bathrom is next door but private although you have to go across the top of an open staircase. Also a shower would have been nice but bathroom otherwise large and lovely! Toilteries a nice touch. Catering for my gluten free needs including lovely gluten free biscuits on the tea tray - I never get this so thank you!! Breakfast fabulous!

Room tip: Can only talk about the Jade attic room but its lovely - watch your head on the beams though!

We had 2 nights in the Jade Attic in early May. Sanders Yard location is great, just off the Market square in the old part of Whitby, so no distance to walk to shops, bars, restaurants, cafes and tourist bits. The breakfast was first rate, with anything from the Bistro breakfast menu being available I think. Room and bed were comfortable, so why only 4 stars ? As has been pointed out in other reviews, the quirky nature of the room comes with some compromises - there are 2 cross beams going across the room which are so low that almost everyone will have to duck to get under them, so not just tall folks need to be aware of. The bathroom is not en suite, so you have to go next door, but it is exclusive use for Jade attic, but only has a batch with a shower attachments and no wall fixings, so you can only shower by sitting in the bath and holding the shower head yourself. If these 'compromises' don't worry you, then this is definitely the place for you, and I would take these over a corporate and sterile hotel chain room any day.

Room tip: Jade Attic is really nice, but there are some compromises (see my review)

We discovered Sanders Yard by accident looking for somewhere to have a coffee last year. The food and service was outstanding and we promised ourselves we would stay when we next visited Whitby.
We stayed in the old Dispensary cottage on Sunday night of May Day weekend. The accommodation was clean, tidy and warm, excellent central location close to bottom of Abbey steps. We were told where to look for free parking by Ian the owner. The Sanders Yard bistro/cafe is excellent, fresh food, excellent service, friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. Will be booking a longer stay later in the year Could not fault our stay Excellent!
