Dear Peter, thank you for your review and comments and we hope to welcome you again soon regards Ian
Whitby with calm seas and sunshine is a delight and so it was. Scenery all around was magnificent especially from the buses across the North Yorkshire Moors to Scarborough or Middlesborough or the steam railway to Pickering.
Stayed at Saxonville for a few days respite after a long winter - a perfectly clean and tidy establishment just back from the top of the cliffs not far from the Cook monument and famous whale bones - a steep walk up from the town
Hotel seemed quite impersonal and lacked much character - room tended to be too warm even with radiators off as it faced sun most of day.
Guests did not have one of life’s great pleasures - browsing the breakfast bar - it was waitress service only !
None of this detracted from the fact that Whitby itself was a joy
The rooms and accommodation were superb, spotlessly clean and service from all staff excellent, a very friendly Hotel, the food was superb especially the full English breakfast, we came with friends and we have all said we would go back again.
Thank you Beverley for your kind review, We hope to welcome you again soon. All the best Ian
Our local soccer team's last game of the season away to Whitby Town F C provided a good reason for a short break at one of our favourite holiday destinations and hotels.
Our double deluxe room was spacious and freshly decorated and furnished with ample wardrobe and drawer storage. The bathroom was modern.
Breakfasts served at the table were generous and freshly cooked. Our chosen tariff included table d' hote dinner which on all four nights was excellent with a wide and different choice each evening. There is a good wine list. Service morning and evening was very efficient and friendly. The lounge and bar areas are comfortable and there is a private car park for about twenty cars.
The hotel is situated on west cliff just off the seafront, a comfortable fifteen minute walk downhill to the harbour and town. Whitby is a picturesque and unspoilt fishing town with narrow cobbled streets and alleys dominated by the parish church and ruined abbey above the harbour. There are lots of pubs, cafes and restaurants. The sands stretch for miles in both directions. Buses run each half hour along the coast towards either Scarborough or Middlesbrough. On the Sunday we caught the bus to Robin Hood's Bay and walked the six miles along the Cinder Track ( former railway line ) back to Whitby. On Monday we caught the bus to Scarborough, which is always worth a visit.
The Saxonville has been family run for over seventy years as is evidenced by the pride taken in the upkeep of the hotel and the quality of customer service. Highly recommended.
Dear Alan, thanks you for providing such a positive and comprehensive review. I'm pleased that you enjoyed your stay and we very look forward to welcoming you again soon . regards Ian
- Reasonable price
- Great food
- Room had a bath and kettle
- 15 minutes' walk from town centre and Pannett Park
- Friendly staff
- Lovely comfy bed
- Breakfast wasn't self-serve (maybe that's normal for hotels, but I prefer the buffet style)
- Old fashioned and ever so slightly sinister decor
Dear guest, many thanks for your comments and I'm pleased to read that your generally enjoyed your stay and plan to stay with us again. We look forward to greeting you again soon. Ian
A good size ground floor room. Comfortable and very clean. Excellent breakfasts with friendly and efficient service. Helped with my bags. Secure off-street parking. Near to the centre of the town. The menu looked good for the other meals, but I wasn't able to try them
Dear Guest, many thanks for your review of your stay at our Hotel. I am pleased to read that you found everything to your satisfaction and hope to see you again in the future. Regards Ian
