We had a very relaxing weekend stay in Blackbird Cottage!

We received a fantastic service from Robert & Sue after booking last minute.
The Cottage was lovely, very cosy and welcoming, it had everything we needed. We especially loved the Gas Stove!

It was in a very peacefull little village but we were still only a 10 minute drive to Whitby Seafront.

We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend to others, we will definatley be back!

Thankyou!

“Attention to detail!!!!”
Reviewed 17 January 2014 for a stay in December 2013

Nice location, nice cottage, but needs some attention to detail!....Outside lights not working!!Torch provided, but no batteries!Let my dog out on the first night, and the door shut behind me,and could not see the key pad to get back in!!The stairs to the attic are so dangerous, and not for the faint hearted!!Seating in the living room not very comfy, two sofa,s would have been much better!! The shower might as well not be there!!!Terrible trickle of cold water!!!Noted many previous complaints about this, but nothing has been done!My daughter, and partner left day two,and we followed the next day(one day early)!Shame could be a very nice place to stay, but needs some attention!!!

Hello Julie
Nice Cottage, Nice Location, Yes, we think so but like everything there is often more to it than meets the eye:
The neighbours prefer the darker village environment and asked if we could restrict the use the small outside light (sensor lights are affected by the wind, even here ). Whilst we were happy to do this we have now made arrangements for this to be replaced with a period alternative. Torch batteries are replaced very regularly. The door has a "snick" to remain open, useful when in the garden.
Upper level stairs are original "cottage" stairs typical in houses in Whitby/Robin Hoods Bay. No problem for most and children love this room but of course steeper than modern stairs.
Hand held hose from tap provided for ease of hair washing but this is a characterful 19th century cottage which does not have the water pressure required for a shower so we do not say it has one.
Seating not been an mentioned but appreciate your suggestion of two, two seaters.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. We will do what we can to look at the points you made.

No working outside lights & poor lock to door- told months ago to replace, not done fell down twice on outside uneven paving stones, steps awkward to load and unload car, not suitable for older or disabled persons, shower was awful, remove bath and modernise with a wet room and proper power shower-Wi Fi essential and not provided, also upstairs bedroom first floor window full of condensation and window would not open, the owner were told months ago in visitors book to sort out the lights and shower, and still not dome so

Hello Barry
Whilst the streetlighting adjacent does light the front of Blackbird Cottage the neighbours prefer a more natural village environment with less artificial light and therefore asked if we could not use the small outside light (as the sensor sometimes is affected by the wind). Whilst the streetlighting is enough for most, we had decided to make arrangements for a suitable period alternative light, which should be in place by the time this is published.
On site car parking is unusual with 19th century cottages but here will accommodate a larger car (Discovery etc.,) with care. The second entrance has no steps. Paths and access have not been an issue before.
There is a hand held hose from the tap provided for ease of hair washing but this is not a shower as the cottage does not have the water pressure required for a shower so we do not say it has one.
WI Fi is available on some mobile phones hot spot but this is village North Yorkshire. We do not get asked for this much as most holiday makers don't look for this but we are looking at this again.
Original style sliding sash windows can stick in winter. This was working but we will check this. The lock has been checked and found to be working properly as designed.

You did, unfortunately, experience a power failure whilst at Blackbird Cottage which turned out to be a failed main switch. I must say Northern Powergrid staff were most helpful in establishing the problem quickly and "Handy Andy Electrician" in Whitby should receive special praise for replacing a failed mains switch within the hour. Excellent service.

We are not complacent and take your comments seriously.

Regards

Robert
