When we booked I thought it was in a village setting. The village is on the main road into Whitby. The cottage is at the bottom of a very steep hill which if you want to walk anywhere it is hard. An evening walk to the pub turns into a hike. The surrounding area is lovely. The stairs in the cottage are very steep. Hazardous at night. The settee in the front room needs updating as not very comfortable. I was there with my husband and son and not room for us all to sit comfortably in the evening. Well equipped kitchen and lovely garden.

Hello Trisha.
We agree that there is no doubt that the walk up the hill to the Plough Inn is good exercise. On the plus side it is downhill all the way back! You may not have found that you can walk to the shops and to the Salmon Leap in Sleights, more or less on the level.
This is a characterful period cottage and the stairs are typical, original (and steeper than modern steps) they are well lighted but even we pay attention.
The road fronting doesn't go to Whitby but skirts to the south. The locals know it (Farmers particularly) and do use it at this time of year.
The Garden is lovely, and catches the sun most of the day. Lounge furniture served us well and I have always found this to be OK, but time moves on and new Chesterfield and easy chair delivery imminent.
Hope you had a good break.

Robert

What can we say, what a relaxing break, everything you could need. Bailey loved the garden. If there is one tiny little niggle, the bedroom could do with a dressing table, we ladies of a certain age need to sit down !! Apart from that we couldnt wish for anything better. Cottage has everything you need, we didnt want to come home. Thank you Lorraine, we will be back

“Lovely cottage, great location”

We stayed in early September, the cottage is in a quiet location with off road parking. Very homely with everything you need. Nice size dog proof garden so we could let our two out and not worry about them running off. Good pub up the road, (the Plough ) dog friendly, good food and locals all friendly. You can get a bus or train into whitby from the village if you fancy leaving the car behind. Highly recommended, we will definitely be going back

The train connection from Sleights into Whitby is very pleasant but not generally well known. Glad you enjoyed your stay, look forward to welcoming you again. Robert.

“Cosy cottage”
Reviewed 16 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Great location for exploring the coast and the moors of North Yorkshire. Cottage was clean and cosy and had lovely, enclosed safe garden for dogs. Sue and Rob of Bumblewick cottages made us feel welcome and were very helpful when we had any queries.
