Free! Takes a few minutes, gets you across the river but you can’t see any views. I believe everything is an experience and I’m always glad to have had an experience but this is not one I would go out of my way to have.

This most efficient free service affords an opportunity to cross these famous waters although there is not a great deal to see immediately on arrival either side. The directions for disembarking are also somewhat confusing.

6 of us went over the River Thames on the Woolwich Free Ferry. The children loved it, even though it only takes a few minutes.

We came across the river to avoid the Blackwall tunnel and the Dartford bridge, ok for a scenic detour! The boats are antique, of a bygone age when people used them to commute form the south to the royal docks. If you can go as a foot passenger you go below the car deck and really go back in time, worth the crossing alone.
