Description: The Blue Nile is a family run Eritrean - Italian cafe and restaurant, harking back to Eritrea's colonial history. Our menu has a mix of Italian and Eritrean classics, from Italian coffees, pasta and ice-creams to Eritrean 'kemem' tea (tea infused with cloves, cinnamon, star anise and ginger), warm 'ful', meat stews infused with cardamom and cinnamon and cooked in 'tesmi', a warm and comforting spiced butter and our delicious home made sweet cardamom flavoured bread called 'himbasha'. A lot of our recipes are gluten - free and we have a wide range of vegetarian dishes.

The food was excellent and the service fantastic. Becky our waitress was attentive and polite. We had the vegetarian option and our friend had the meat. I recommend the Eritrean mes as it is nice and strong with a slight bitter taste. But very tasty. I recommend this restaurant for its ambience and variety of food and warm welcoming staff.

a simple menu with a nice, hot, spicy and eventually tasty food. Injera is something worth trying. You can eat with hands or cutleries if you want. Nice deserts as well.

After reading reviews, decided to take my husband for birthday treat at the Blue Nile. What a wonderful introduction to delicious Eritrean food in nice surroundings, in a small independent restaurant. Lovely service direct from Shewa herself - the cook and owner.. Becky the waitress rocks! We recommended the mixed main courses as an introduction, then Italian deserts.... Very popular so you must book even early in the week. And to the people who booked a table for 8 who didn't turn up - you denied several other people who were turned away because your table was not availalbe the delight of eating there that night. We will be coming back again, and again....
