“Family trip to London”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2012

My family and in recently visited London for 6 days for spring break and stayed at the St. Ermin's Hotel. The staff at the hotel was very friendly and helpful, the decor was beautiful, clean and classy. Our room had two comfortable double beds however the room was a little small however so comfortable and the bathroom was beautiful and very clean.
The location was perfect just a 3 minute walk to the St. James tube, 15 minute walk to Buckingham Palace and Victoria Station with lots of restaurants.
If we ever plan a trip to London again will would stay at the St. Ermin's Hotel.

I stayed for 4 nights in April 2012, in a superior double. The rooms are typically small in historic hotels, and St Ermin's is no exception. The renovations have resulted in a nicely decorated room, with a very comfortable bed. It would be oppressive with two people in the room - you'd really have to like each other a lot :-), and there isn't really cupboard space for two.

Some attention to detail is needed - I called twice in two days to have the same bag of laundry collected - it took housekeeping servicing the room late on the second day for it to be collected and removed. When it was returned the next day, it was beautifully presented, and obviously done by a third party (eg returned in suitbag, shirts on board and sealed in plastic etc).

I also had not one but two occasions where the staff tapped gently on the door and then barged in - this seemed to be staff performing quality checks on the rooms - fantastic, but knock firmly AND THEN WAIT before you barge in.

It also took 3 days for the mini-bar to be restocked.

Room service is good, and the most promptly delivered I've seen in a long while.

With better communication between the staff, and some more training, this could be a winner of a hotel!

Dear Madam,

Thank you for taking the time to write your review, your feedback is invaluable and will help us to better serve our guests. Please accept my apologies for the over-eager quality-checking. I am also sorry to read about the late collection of your laundry. This is certainly not indicative of our usual prompt customer service. However, I am pleased to read that the final outcome and presentation of the dry-cleaning was beyond your expectations.
As you have mentioned, in our Grade II listed hotel, each room is unique and the building houses varying room shapes and sizes throughout which adds to the distinctiveness of St.Ermin’s.
I hope that you enjoyed your stay with us and that you will return one day soon.

Best regards,

Douglas McHugh

Great hotel and great location. The hotel is very clean and the staff incredibly nice and helpful. We flew into London on a Thursday morning and got to the hotel at 10am to see if we could check in early. They assured us a room would be ready in an hour and it was, which was great since we'd been in transit from the US for almost 10 hours including air and train. We had problems with the TV on the first night where it required having to be rebooted every 5 minutes. When it was still occuring on the second night, the night manager, Bilal (very nice person), moved us to another room and personally came up to help with the bags. He also credited us two days internet which was nice since internet is not free. The hotel location is right next to the St James tube which is on the district line and can get you pretty much anywhere. It also connects to Victoria Station which is how we came and went from the airport. West Minster Abbey was less than a 5 minute walk. The two rooms we stayed in had exterior obstructed views of brick walls so we pretty much kept the blinds closed but with the great location and since we were out most of the day anyway this was not that big of a deal. It would have been nice if there was a refrigerator for use for personal items but the in room refrigerator was dedicated to the mini-bar and if you were to remove an item you would be charged for it so no place for your own stuff. We never ate at the hotel so I cannot comment on the restaurant or prices. I did have a couple of draft beers at the hotel bar and a pint was ~7 pounds (or ~10 dollars) which is about what I paid at a similar hotel bar in Manhattan, NY last year so it was pretty much the same; better to hit the cool pubs around the corner like The Albert for a pint half that price and served on cask. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay again at St Ermins next time we visit London.

Room Tip: Request a room with a view of the courtyward or the street but don't get too hung up on it if yo...

hotel excellent,room superb,breakfast-great 1st two days.3rd day hustled into cold ballroom.self-service breakfast-although had 2 menu-choice breakfasts on 1st two days.No bacon,eggs, orhash brownies left-just tomatoes & a few sausages.waited 30mins for hot drinks.The staff were clearly harrassed & understaffed.

Room Tip: the receptionist tried to interest us in a better room at-£150 extra!

My husband and I were in London the last week of March. Business for him, pleasure for me. The flowers were all in bloom in the courtyard which was a wonderful welcome along with the friendly, courteous staff. The lobby is as beautiful as the pictures and our room was too. The Internet service was spotty which made working difficult for my husband and his many co-workers that were also staying there. The food was delicious and the entire staff were kind and helpful. The location couldn't have been better. It's a short walk to Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben/Parliament, and the tube is just around the corner to get you anywhere else you want to be. A big THANK YOU to all the staff for making our first trip to London magical.
