“Good Stay.”
Reviewed 14 March 2012

This hotel is perfectly fine for a short stay, and it is conveniently located to public transit. The Great Portland Street station is a short walk, and even with luggage, easy to navigate. Nearby are restaurants, coffee shops, and a Sainsbury Local grocery.

The room and bath are somewhat small, but adequate. Everything is clean, modernized, and in working order. The maid service was excellent, and they worked around our lazy schedule. Check-in and check-out were a breeze, with a friendly, smiling staff. In fact, all staff were nice and helpful.

The breakfast is good with plenty of choices. They could improve the quality of the coffee, however. One breakfast manager, Grace, was great. She walked around, during her breaks of seating people, to check on tables, wait staff, and guests. And smiling.

We had a coupon for food and beverages in the hotel, and we dined in the restaurant a couple of times. Both my partner and I agreed that it was good and presented well.

My only complaint: Gouging for internet. I hate, hate, hate paying for internet anywhere, anytime. Marriott always provides it for free. I am a Gold member of Intercontinental Hotels Group and would like for IHG hotels to realize they impinge on guest's comfort and convenience when they make internet so expensive. I left the hotel several times to go to Starbuck's and to Villandry's, a nearby cafe, where they offered it free.

It is overall a nice hotel and kept up to a high standard, in terms of service, cleanliness, and staff friendliness. I would go back, but only after having looked for free internet at other hotels in the area first.

My wife and I stayed at this Holiday Inn for one night recently in a double room with breakfast included. We booked through an online agency and paid £100 for a Saturday night. We booked well in advance.
We had a double room on the 3rd floor with all the usual Holiday Inn amenities. The room was very clean and well maintained but the built-in furniture, fittings and carpet were marked and worn . The room had very good heating/aircon and there were two opening windows. The bathroom had a bath with a good shower and the usual fittings. Our main concern here is that the room and bathroom were very small. Maximum use was made of the space to fit everything in. Also the the soundproofing between rooms was poor as we could here all our neighbours conversations and activities. Clearly the hotel was built long before modern soundproofing standards were introduced.
The hotel is large and when we stayed it appeared to be nearly full therefore breakfast was busy with a substantial queue when we arrived at 9.30. However, the dining room manager was superb in handling the guests, some of whom were quite awkward, and we did not wait too long for a table. All the dining room staff were excellent and very efficient. Breakfast was good with plenty of hot food and a cold buffet.
The location of the hotel is very close to Gt. Portland Street tube station and only a brief walk to Regent Street. Regents Park is quite close too.
The staff at the this Holiday were superb from the receptionist at check in, the dining room staff, the porters and the bar staff etc etc. They were all friendly, efficient and calm.
We are sure this hotel could be rated higher on the Trip Advisor scale but for us the size of the room and the soundproofing issue have lowered our rating. However, if you can get a good deal go and try it for yourself.

The problem starts with the rating. Do yourself a favor and lower the rating. Perhaps expectations needs to be reset. Now having said that it was a decent stay.

For the price and location you should know what to expect but the hope of a pleasant surprise just wasnt there.

Pros  - location and prox to great portland station walking distance w bags.
Clean room and clean bathroom
Pleasant service
Water coffee and juice free in lobby is nice touch

Cons - bit old and dated looking ikea like furniture
I swore it was suppose to be a four star? Didnt seem like it rather 3 at best. ratings can be dubious at times.
Small room and small bathrooms the kind where you could sit on the toilet and brush your teeth
Complaining a side it is what it is a budget friendly hotel with small frills (no wifi) but little complaints
Oh and yes soiled carpets but nothing i havent seen before from a three star hotel

May pass on future recommendations but perhaps id recommend trying or paying for the buffet at check in.
