“location is OK, but nothing special about this hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 February 2012

I guess one shouldn't expect luxury at a Holiday Inn, but as a platinum member of their Priority Club loyalty program, I was kind of expecting more than a shoebox for my upgraded room -- the "executive floor" seemed indistinguishable from any regular room.

Other than tight quarters, the hotel is fine. It's an older property in reasonable condition with decent but not exceptional furnishings. The bed and bathroom were fine. Temperature control left a little to be desired, but you could open your window a bit. The staff were friendly and efficient. The location is in a decent neighborhood, a little further north than might be preferred, but still walkable (20 minutes) to the theatre district and sights such as the British Museum. There is a convenient Sainsbury market across the street from the hotel if you need food or snacks (for example, if breakfast is not included in your rate).

I was staying on a Priority Club award reservation so cost wasn't an issue, but I did notice the rates seemed pricey for a Holiday Inn. I know London is expensive, but if you're paying your own way, I suspect you can get better value elsewhere. It's not worth paying a lot for what is truly nothing more than a decent 3 star hotel.

Dear Dave’s_Reviews,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us.

I have noted your comments about the size of the executive rooms. They are the same size as our standard rooms. We differentiate the executive rooms with the amenities that we include such as bigger and softer towels as well as robes, larger flat screen TV etc.

In regards to price we monitor the market rate in the local area on an on going basis to ensure that we remain great value for money. If you are able to get abetter deal form somewhere other than our own website please let me know as we take great pride in having the very best rates on our own website.

I hope that you will choose us again when you are next in Central London. It is always a pleasure to welcome back our most loyal priority club members.

Kind Regards

Booked this hotel with a show on the 'show and stay' website. Have stayed in a few hotels in London and this was the best so far. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. Room was quite spacious - and windows opened! As well as air con / heating control which worked. Will definitely stay here again.

Always stay here when in London as ideal for West End shopping and theatres. Reasonably priced for central London. Friendly and helpful staff.

The hotel was very conveniently placed near to Oxford Street and not too far from the theatres. For London, the room was a reasonable size and it was clean and comfortable. There were no little treats or even biscuits so I did feel, as part of a large chain, they were obviously watching the bottom line!!
After returning from the theatre, there were no seats available in the bar which was not big enough for such a large hotel. We took our drinks to our room. The same can be said of the restaurant when we had to wait in a queue for breakfast the next morning. The staff were very friendly and coping very well with the pressure they were obviously working under. Unfortunately the cooked breakfast was not particularly pleasant either. The ingredients were certainly all there but again the hotel chain was obviously buying in bulk at the cheapest rate. The sausages were tasteless and neither of us ate the black pudding which we normally enjoy. The scrambled egg appeared to have been made with powdered egg?
I would suggest you only book an overnight and eat breakfast at the nearby restaurants!

Dear Kaik0ura,
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on your stay with us. I am sorry that you did not get the experience that you expected. Whilst profit is important and we are here to make money, we take a longer term view and focus on delivering sustainable profit by ensuring that our guests are kept happy.

I have shared your comments regarding the sausages with our Executive chef who is reviewing the breakfast offering. We have just added freshly cooked pancakes to further enhance breakfast.

I note your comment about the scrambled eggs. We purchase pre-prepared scrambled eggs to minimise the risk of food poisoning. To cook nice fluffy scrambled eggs you can not heat the eggs above 75 degrees necessary to kill bacteria that may be present.

Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to make this a better experience for you
Kind Regards
