Green Park is a stones throw from the hustle and bustle of Whitehall. The park runs from Horse Guards Parade through to Buckingham Palace running parallel to The Mall. At the north end of the park is the serpentine, a man made lake complete with ducks and swans.

The park offers a stunning array of colour with flower beds full of plants maintained by the Royal Parks. There are plenty of trees to provide shade in summer yet there are also acres of open lawns to sit and relax over a picnic and to watch the world go by.

If sitting on the grass is not to your liking you can hire a good old fashioned deck chair.

You will also find a tea room toward the south side offering light refreshments including ice creams but be warned this is London and as a tourist trap you will pay. There is a smaller kiosk adjacent to the exit to St James’s Palace.

There are public toilets adjacent to both, but we aware that at the time of visiting you need 20 pence coins to get through a turn style arrangement.

My adult daughter and I had an hour to kill and we walked round the lake in Green Park. What a pleasant afternoon not just the trees about to bud and the flowers throughout - the wild life was amazing. A superb bird sanctuary even with pelicans and al sorts of ducks and geese. What a great way to spend time.
Loved it and will be back in summer.

I reckon I first visited Green Park nearly 50 years ago as a young boy on my very first trip to the UK. Several trips made since then and this afternoon, after returning to London from Edinburgh, I took the Underground to Green Park to meet a good friend at St James.

We walked through Green Park on a windy but sunny afternoon soaking in the peace and solitude. It is one of several Parks in close proximity to each other in and around Central London.

Green Park has its pros and cons and is a short walk from Buckingham Palace.

It’s not a spectacular park and really only fills in a space between other parks and roads. It’s worth using to walk through rather than along the roads and there are some nice memorials around it.
