Owner description: Temporarily Closed Elizabeth Tower is the name of the famous clock tower which stands at the Houses of Parliament. The name Big Ben is often used to describe the tower, the clock and the bell but the name was first given to the Great Bell. The Elizabeth Tower was completed in 1859 and the Great Clock started on 31 May. The Great Bell's strikes were heard for the first time on 11 July and the quarter bells first chimed on 7 September. All visits to Big Ben and the Elizabeth Tower tours are now suspended due to refurbishment with the last tour having taken place on 16 December 2016. Tours are scheduled to resume in early 2020 once the work is complete. Visitors can still book tickets for a number of other tours at the Houses of Parliament which take place on Saturdays throughout the year and on weekdays during Parliamentary recesses.

Big Ben is part of the Houses of Parliament. The clock and its booming bell is obviously a massively famous icon of London

Unfortunately it is currently undergoing massive restoration and is covered in scafolding and sheeting so its completely hidden from view

Suggest you check the web site before you make the journey or you’re going to be disappointed.

We were excited to see this landmark only to discover it is almost completely covered up bring restored. It should look great when done in a couple years.

A great historic place to visit. However it is under renovation. I did not recognize it at the first. The river is beautiful. It so good to walk along with your partner.

While we aren’t able to see the entire structure we did get to see the top prior to being boarded up for 3 years for restoration.

Right now, it is under construction. This is sad because it is really hard to take a picture for the memory.

I was in London for 20 days visiting my boyfriend. I went around the whole area to find the perfect spot to take a picture with the BigBen and not to see all those tubes and the man working on top.

(see the pictures attached to the review) The trick is to cover half of it but not the top. This you can do with a selfie like the one I took. Or with someone taking the picture. If you see both of the pictures you will understand what I am talking about.

Of course you have to go to the BigBen if you are in London. It is one of the main landmarks.
