Having had a less than successful stay on Cartwright Gardens before at the Jenkins, I decided, because of the very handy proximity to King's Cross and St. Pancras stations, to make a reservation for 1 night at the Harlingford. Quite a difference.
While my experience is often in single rooms that seem to be carved out of closets and other awkward spaces and tend to be tiny, as this one was, still it had some style and a decent bathroom. And although there was some noise from the street and from the adjacent room it was clear that it had not been thrown together with leftovers but had a designer bathroom and upscale decor in the bedroom including pretty light-excluding draperies that were mirrored in a window in the closet. Very nice. An oddly placed alcove for the coffee/tea tray above the bed did not distract from the pleasant feel of the room and it had another alcove near the head of the bed for my clock, book & glasses, the sort of useful place often missing from single rooms.
The staff were all pleasant, the sitting room actually invited one to sit and breakfast was good although I'd encourage them to replace fried bread with hash browns and add mushrooms to the menu.
If my travels again dictate a stay near these train stations it will certainly be at the Harlingford.More
