We stayed here because we had arrived on a long haul flight and it was close to Paddington Station where Heathrow Express has a convenient shuttle train from Heathrow Airport. The Mercure is in a convenient location for transit visitors and therefore quite expensive even though we got a cheap online deal. The room was clean and the staff were efficient and friendly. One thing I would do differently is have some coins on me so that I could tip the porter appropriately. The front desk would not change money for me so I had to tip a five pound note. We were jet lagged and hungry so ordered some room service food. All I can say is it did not quite match the description on the menu. In the morning we got up early and went for a walk before catching our connecting train at 10am. There was rubbish everywhere in the street outside the hotel and along the street. Hopefully the local council will remedy this before the Olympics. We went for a walk and a short distance down the road and across, found a warm welcoming Italian bistro with the footpath outside neatly swept and the owner inside serving up lots of delicious English breakfasts to the locals. We had a fabulous breakfast and were all set for the next step of our journey.
