“beautiful hotel, brilliant location”
Reviewed 18 May 2012

You never know what to expect with Holiday Inn, sometimes they are amazing, other times they are really run down. This hotel is a beautiful property, obviously recently redocorated. The entrace is grand, the rooms incredibly modern and comfortable. Twin rooms have double beds, the bathrooms large with a powerful shower. The hotel is in a great location, especially for business needs. It is close to Holborn, and yet it is great also for evening entertainment as it is a 10 minute walk into Islington where there are restaurants, bars, a cinema and the O2 indigo music venue. This is a fantastic place for business travel.

I didn't think much to the indian restaurant on site, the food wasn't fantastic... i ordered the korma with pre meal snacks for room service one night, but it was very bland. i plan to return and try the mango dish, I'll report back on that one. But the service was fantastic. £2.50 rental charge for a tray was also a little unncessary, but i hear that is quite normal for hotels.

the other restaurant was brilliant, i ordered a steak which was cooked to perfection and had chunky chips which were fantastic. im tempted to order the beef wellington to my room one night on my next stay.

Besides the food, this was a brilliant stay, I am incredibly happy with the service and the rooms and I will definitely be returning on my next trip to London with work, which is likely to be next week.

Good location - 10 minutes walk to Russell Square. Hotel was clean and comfortable - I stayed with two friends for a girlie weekend away. Room on 5 th floor double with bed Setee which was fine. Breakfast was good cooked, with cold meats, fruit and yoghurt and plenty of tea or coffee! Disappointed with check out - it took 25 minutes for reception to split our bill 3 ways! Overall good choice reasonably priced for London at £74 each including breakfast - would definately return,

This hotel charges a walk-in price of £230 for a room. This doesn't include internet access. Seven days of access works out to be £45. This is extortionate. I don't believe the comparison to other hotels and what they charge to be a defence to this. The internet should be free as standard. Just because we're business travellers doesn't mean we'll pay and put it through expenses. Complained about this but got no where. Poor.

The food in the attached Indian restaurant was of low quality. I ordered a lamb pastry to start which had clearly been microwaved. It came served with a red onion coleslaw which had seen too much food colouring.

I usually like Holiday Inn's but this one is at the low end of the scale. I will not be staying here again.

Room Tip: Don't stay in 412. It's straight out of the 80s.

Overall - good Holiday Inn - service, room was at the level that I expect from a Holiday Inn.

I was disappointed that they charged for using the pool and not included in the room cost. This was not indicated on the easytobook.com...one of my criteria for the hotel was inclusion of pool services in the high London Hotel prices.

I stopped with my two children, room was okay but smelt musty, food at the restaurant looked like the chef knew how but his application was not brilliant, example salmon was overcooked and the crumble was without err crumble, breakfast buffet is BEST AVOIDED.
The pool/jacuzzi/sauna were the best bit of our stay but you have to pay to use which I thought was unusual.
I read the website and it does state children under ten eat free....put plain and simple my two never ate once for free at this hotel

I shall try elsewhere in the future,oh and also had to wait as they had no details of mine although I had booked.a day earlier which was nice.
