“Little Gem!”
Reviewed 4 March 2012

Just back from a one night (Friday) stay booked through "Red Letter Days". From check-in to check-out, it's very difficult to find fault with this hotel. The Reception staff are exceptionally well presented, friendly and efficient and there are plenty of them, so no hanging around! The warm cookie on arrival was an unexpected bonus. The room was probably one of the cleanest we have stayed in and the bathroom was also spotless with nice quality toiletries and complimentary bathrobes. The rooms are contempary and although not huge, more than adequate with lovely floor to ceiling windows. The Mac technology is also a bonus. In-room safes and a decent hair dryer are another plus point. We had a 'phone call from Reception about 1/2 an hour after check-in asking if everything was okay with the room, again, a nice touch.

Breakfast was excellent with the hot food being cooked to order rather than being presented buffet style, so everything arrives hot and freshly cooked. The staff were very pleasant and attentive and nothing was too much trouble.

The Sky Lounge is well worth a visit with spectacular views across Tower Bridge and the London sky line - breathtaking! Again, the staff are very efficient and eager to please. One word of warning though, the drinks are very expensive (over £16 for a small beer and bacardi and coke) but I guess it is London and you are paying for the view and the rather exclusive surroundings.

We have stayed in several five star hotels in London and I would say from a service point-of-view this hotel is on a par. Tower Hill Tube Station is literally just around the corner and Tower Bridge a 5 minute walk. Will we be back, most certainly!

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 639 which looked out on to Trinity House.

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for your very kind review of our hotel, I'm delighted to see we had been able to impress you on a number of different levels.

It is a particular complement to our teams that you consider us comparable with other 5 star establishments in the area. We do pride ourselves on offering a service that is both personable and professional and I'm thrilled this had made a lasting impression.

We look forward to your return and in the meantime do let us know how we can be of any further assistance.

With best regards

Amy

Just stayed here for two nights after a business trip to England. Our rate was 119 pounds per night, and we were lucky to receive a upgrade which included breakfast. Also included a free bottle of red wine, and a large bottle of both still and carbonated water.

The location is a 2 minute walk from the tube, so getting around London is easy. A 24 hour tube pass is around 7 pounds. Also only a short walk to the Tower of London.

The room was small compared to North American standards, but very good size relative to European standards. Bed was comfortable and room well appointed. The bathroom did not have a tub, but the shower although small was fine.

We only had breakfast at the hotel, and the food was good. Glad that breakfast was included, as menu choices (hot breakfast) are 21.5 pounds, and the continental buffet (well stocked) was 17.5 pounds, not cheap!

Recommend spending some time at the Borough market if you are there Thursday thru Saturday. (http://boroughmarket.org.uk/) It is just a short tube ride (although you must change lines) and a great spot to snack on free samples, buy some fresh produce or baked goods, or have a great lunch at one of the food stalls. My two traveling companions could have spent all day there!

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for your review and for choosing to stay at the DoubleTree Tower of London for your business travel needs.

I'm delighted to hear you'd been able to take advantage of a room upgrade with special amenities, which I hope had help to make your stay that little bit more comfortable.

Should you be able to return in the future why not try our City Cafe or Skylounge for a bite to eat, both offer fantastic value in relaxing and contemporary surroundings!

Thank you for your kind comments and we hope to see you again soon.

Kindest regards
Amy

After spending the last several years staying at another Hilton property in north London, tried this one as a new addition to the brand and am thoroughly impressed. Rooms are not huge, but very reasonable size. Sparkling clean everywhere. Great comfortable bed. Closet could be a bit bigger but it's a quibble.

Wifi was reliable and free. Didn't use the iMac in the room other than to watch a bit of a game, but a nice touch.

Only real complaint was the lack of a clock radio. Not sure why that was, I've never been in a hotel before that didn't have one.

The rooftop bar/patio alone is worth a trip to the hotel. Great view.

Due to business pressures I was forced to eat in the hotel 3 times for dinner during my stay. That's usually a bit of a punishment, but this time it was fine. Not gourmet dining, but tasty and inventive.

I have a new home-away-from-home when in London now.

Room Tip: Facing outside instead of in towards the center.

I recently stayed here for three nights and, if I remember correctly, we were in room 829, which had a view of the atrium. Whilst it would have been nicer to have a room with a view of the Tower, this room was larger and ultimately a better deal. This was a large suite, with two Apple computer/televisions with excellent internet, table, large bed, and the beautiful, clean bathroom had both a shower and a bath. There was a bit of communication breakdown at the beginning of our stay, but the team was able to sort everything out and we enjoyed our stay greatly. The view of Tower Bridge and the Tower of London were incredible, especially at night and from the swanky SkyLounge. Be warned: you'll pay a heck of a lot for a cocktail there. Also, don't fall into the tourist trap of having all your meals there, as there is a pub very close by, which serves some of the same things for less. Finally, the cookies we were given at check-in were some of the nicest cookies I've ever had.

Modern nice hotel conveniently located right next to many public transportation options. Review based on a two night stay in February (background of spending 80+ nights per year in different hotels around the globe).

Location:
As you could image the Tower of London fortress is almost next door with a number of other sights such as HMS Belfast, Monument and Tower Bridge all in the neighborhood. Also a number of pubs, restaurants and shops close by.

Very convenient for tube access, Tower Hill station is literally stone’s throw away from the hotel. Also the funny light rail of DLR is easy accessible via Tower Gateway and proper railway through Fernchurch station.

Room:
Received a room at 9th floor facing the Tower of London, very decent size: not the biggest one I’ve seen but certainly not the smallest either. Décor was simple & modern but not too modern with light wood and white walls. Bathroom was rather small but very smooth looking with black’n’white scheme.

The room was in very good shape, not signs of usage anywhere including the bathroom.
Received some fruits, water and also a bottle of red wine as complimentary, perhaps due to my Hilton Honors Diamond status. Room was very quiet, didn’t basically hear any noise from the other rooms or outside.

Quite stunning view from the room: classical 10 Trinity Square building right next door with the Tower of London beside it, turn your head and you’ll see the high rise of Shard London Bridge.

Etc:
Hotel was overall very modern and clean with a quite flashy lobby.

Breakfast was quite all right, nothing really special as such but did the job without complaints.

Would I return there?
Yes, sure. I had really nothing to complain about. Overall I would rank this easily among Top-5 Hilton chain hotels in London (from 20+ locations I’ve been in)
