“Good job i didn't want to swing a cat.”
Reviewed 1 March 2012

Twas a bit cramped in our room on the fourth floor, so much so that i tripped over the bed and spotted 2 cigarette ends on the floor under the tv desk whilst picking myself up.
there are no opening windows which is a bit of a shame if you like fresh air.
we were pleased with the substantial breakfast though, but only because we were first to arrive as by the time we left it had turned into a riotous free for all.
the front desk team were uninterested in answering our questions, pointing us to a leaflet stand in the corner without uttering a word. bordering on rude.
On the plus side .....Great location for city access.
That is all.

A group of 8 of us stayed here last weekend having booked 4 rooms quite some time ago using a deal with the RAC offering 2 nights for the price of 1. This worked out at £100 per room per night for us. When we arrived the rate per room per night was over £400 so we were very pleased!!!
I had some trouble during my booking with my card being charged twice. This was sorted out straight away and refunded back to my card. The communication from the hotel via email was fantastic. I also emailed nearer our stay to request that our rooms were close to each other and even though the person I emailed had now moved to a different hotel she kindly forwarded my email to the new Front Office Manager. Whilst we were at the hotel the service from the staff was faultless, from the receptionist to the bar staff. Also the concierge was very helpful and the taxi booking service, including receiving texts when our taxi arrived, was great!
We had booked Executive rooms which I would thoroughly recommend if you can get a good deal! They were spotlessly clean, a nice size and very comfortable. Despite being in central London it was so quiet at night and pitch black thanks to the shutters on the windows. We didn't use the mini bar as it was very expensive (as you would expect!) but were very happy with the tea & coffee making facilities. They even threw in a complimentary Kit Kat Chunky which kept me happy! We were also impressed with a complimentary bowl of fruit, piled high in each room as well as a handwritten note from the Guest Relations Officer to welcome us! I'm not sure if this was due to the earlier problems with payment and the fact I had been in email contact or if they always do this but it was a lovely touch and everyone commented on it. They also put us in 4 rooms next to each other which was helpful.
We pre-paid for breakfast at check-in and it cost us £9.50 each. I think it was totally worth the money considering the price of a coffee and sandwich in London anyway. It was a self-service buffet full of delicious options from a full fry-up to pastries, fruit and cereal. You could go up for seconds or even thirds if you wanted to get your moneys worth! It definitely set us up for the rest of the day. The restaurant wasn't too busy either. You do need to pre-pay though as on the second morning some of us hadn't pre-booked and it would've cost us £16.50 to pay on the day!! So that day a few of us nipped over to the shopping centre opposite and ate at Giraffe instead which I would also highly recommend! Much the same price as pre-paying in the hotel though and no second helpings.... The hotel also served individual breakfast items in the bar if you just wanted to have a bowl of porridge or some toast. We didn't use the hotel restaurant for lunch or dinner so can't coment. We did however have a few drinks in the Irish bar attached to the hotel and dinner on our first night. This was basic pub grub, burgers, pies, etc. But it was good food and we were all stuffed when we left!
The location of the hotel is ideal. The tube station is 2 minutes walk. The shopping centre opposite is nice for a little stroll around and Covent Garden and other popular areas are about a 15 minute walk away. We were having a big night out and couldn't face the walk in heels but a black cab cost us around £9 to Covent Garden so that was fine! During the day in flat shoes the walk was very enjoyable though.
All in all I would recommend this hotel, though looking at earlier reviews it seems Executive is the way to go! We were very lucky! What a fab weekend! I hope to stay again.
Congrats to all the staff for making it such an enjoyable stay. Thank you!

Room Tip: Book an Executive room on the first floor

We booked an executive room & it was a large room! Very nice! The bathroom was also large. The Irish bar attached was great to have an afternoon beer! I thought this was a great hotel. The only negative, it's a little out of the way for shopping but the tube just got used more than usual,,

Despite staying in an "executive room" it would have been hard to swing an executive cat in it! The bathroom had water stains on the surface around the sink. On a positive note the staff were efficient and friendly.
