“A Wonderful Find in a Fabulous Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 April 2012

My 11-year-old son and I stayed here in March using a discount site for a 'basic' twin-bedded room, and got far more for our money than we ever expected! Heated bathroom floors, a tv above the large bathtub, international adaptors, chargers for our 'modern' appliance, kettle and tea/coffeemaking accoutrements, comfortable beds and good linens -- everything but a view, but who cares! London is designed to be enjoyed, and we were out and about all day, with no time to gaze out the window. The location of the hotel is perfect -- across from the Embankment Tube stop and Hungerford Bridge, on the Thames. Apparently the hotel does have wonderful rooms with views, but we didn't get one, or need one. You can walk to all the 'major' sites from here, if you're a walker. And if you're not, there are many good pubs within a block or two. Don't miss the buffet breakfast -- it is an extra cost, but well worth it, a wonderful English breakfast spread. We will definitely stay here next time we come to London!

Thank you very much for your wonderful review of our hotel. I was absolutely delighted to read that you and your son thoroughly enjoyed your stay with us and that you feel the hotel is faultless. I have shared your kind comments with the entire team. We are indeed very lucky to have such and enviable location that is 'perfect' for catching the sights of London either by foot or by public transport is you wish to go further afield.

I was particularly pleased to read your comments about our breakfast. We realise it is the most important meal of the day, so we ensure it is an experience worth getting out of bed for!!

Once again, thank you very much for your fabulous comments. We very much look forward to being able to welcome you back in the very near future.

Kind regards,

We booked this as a Top Secret hotel on lastminute. We were delighted to be so central - the location is great.
Having read some reviews it seems that some rooms only have an internal window, so when we checked in we asked for one with an external window. They were happy to accomodate our request (at no extra charge), and we ended up with a lovely room on the first floor. We got a great view of the river and London Eye (although the trees would block the view in the summer), as well as the lovely gardens.

Our room key did not work at first, but the staff were very helpful and it was sorted quickly. The room was very comfortable and well appointed.

Overall, we had a lovely stay, and it was excellent value at the price we paid.

Room Tip: It's worth asking if they have a room with an external window. We asked at check-in and were gi...

stayed at the royal horseguards last year - late june / early july. loved the location, amenities and hotel itself, but was really disappointed with the beds. they were very hard. did anyone else have a similar experience? i'm heading back to london next month and looking for a place to stay - and would consider this hotel again if the beds were a one-off issue.

given i place high importance on beds and showers, my rating is low relative to other amenities.

Thank you for your recent your review regarding your stay last Summer.

I am delighted to read that you enjoyed your stay with us however a little disappointed to learn that the beds were not deemed comfortable enough for you throughout your stay.

Please be assured that I have shared your comments with our Executive Housekeeper and Rooms Division Manager who wish to have their apologies linked with mine. The Housekeeping department do have 'toppers' which they can place on top of the mattress to make it softer, so please make this request when you book your return reservation. May I suggest that you do this direct with the hotel to ensure your expectations are met.

Thank you once again for bringing this matter to our attention and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Kind regards,

Bechir Messaoud.

We have stayed at the Royal Horseguards Hotel in London twice in the last month and both times the hotel and staff have been superb. We were given free upgrades to executive rooms which although didn't have the view of the Thames they had a fabulous 7 ft bed and the rooms are extremely comfortable with iphone docking station, tea and coffee and probably the best selection of toiletries we have come across in hotels.

The hotel is in a great location especially if you are planning a trip to the theatre as Covent Garden is a really short walk away. You can also walk across the foot bridge to the south side of the Thames to the Tate Modern, the London Eye and the Aquarium etc.

Charing Cross Station and Embankment tube is also only about 150 yards away.

We have stayed in many hotels in London and this one is now our firm favourite!

Room Tip: The standard rooms and deluxe rooms don't have a really big bed so if you need a larger bed I wo...

Once again we were treated to the excellent care and attention of the whole team at the Royal Horseguards. We have visitied many times previously and this was for a special celebration of my wife's birthday. The rooms are of a very high standard as are the bar and restuarant areas. Every effort was made to make the weekend special from the room upgrade to the petit fours left in the room when we returned from the theatre. The staff were attentive, extremely charming and determined to deliver the best level of customer service possible. Many thanks to the whole team.
