We stayed in a double, fully ensuite room (room #2 in the basement).

The location is excellent and would be hard to beat- no more than 60 seconds walk from Paddington station, about 10 minutes to Hyde Park, very nice neighbourhood with good food options nearby. This is essentially what you are paying for. Other positive points included the breakfast, which was average, but improved the value, and the free wifi service which was good.

The room was very small, which was expected. Unfortunately, the rest of the room was a dissapointment. It had a funny smell, which we didn't notice at first as the window was fully open when we arrived. The bathroom was lit by a single, uncovered lightbulb which you turned on and off with a string that hung from the ceiling. Neither the shower or the sink drained properly. After a 5-minute shower you will be standing in water up to your ankles.

Another problem was that there was no in-room safe. I ended up risking just leaving my valuables in the room anyway, but then came back to find the cleaning staff had left the window to my room fully open, probably to air out the smell. This upset me as we were in a basement room, and the window opened to a courtyard that other guests had easy access to. Essentially my valuables were fully accessible to other guests.

The room was very noisy - we had trouble sleeping as the sounds of guests walking above us reverberated very loudly, and we could clearly hear the conversations of the guests in other rooms. Also, our room was near the hall where breakfast was served in the morning, so we were woken up as soon as breakfast service started. This wasn't a problem for us, though, as we were eager to start our day in London.

In summary: amazing location, good wifi and breakfast, but much below average rooms and poor sound insulation. The prices in London are expensive, so I'd leave it to someone else to judge what the value of this place is. Not sure if you could find better for the price we paid, but I wouldn't stay there again.

Room Tip: Avoid the basement, avoid room #2.

This hotel provides good value for your money. But you have to keep that in mind, because it is very small compared to American hotels. But you're in London to see London, not to sit in a hotel room! The staff is attentive, breakfast is included, and you are a very short walk from Paddington, which provides a Tube stop and the train to Heathrow. And there is a laundry a couple blocks away. You are welcome to use the internet connection in the lobby (one computer). There is no elevator (much like other hotels in the area). The rooms are very quiet. Very well worth the price once you can wrap your head around the size.

In general:
This is a very nice and charming hotel which got the 4 points, and deservedly so.
If you are looking for a traditional English hotel in Victorian style and with a very good breakfast you will find it at the Falcon Hotel.
The owner as well as the staff of the hotel really care and encourages to tell if something won't meet the expectations.
You can leave the luggage there for your last day before the return flights.

Breakfast:
Breakfast is great. Toast, jam and chees, full English breakfast, tea or coffee, cerials, fruits and joghurt.
The serving times are sharp. We staid for 4 days and it was never too crowded.
The breakfast room has a telly.

The room:
The rooms are very clean, neat and well maintained.
The televisions in the room are modern, flat screen.
The rooms are not big, but comfy. Since one is there to see London why having a big room.
The bath we had (room 19) was modern and very clean too. I enjoyed the nice and hot showers and felt relaxed.

The only downsite for some who don't like climbing stares would be the narror stairs. But as said this is a charming Victorian Style hotel which is also listed and therefore only minor changes are allowed.

Public transportation:
The distance to the Paddington Tube station is only around the corner (4 min walk) and along you can grap a good coffee at a very nice Cafe.
Many busses go along and stop around as well.
We came from Heathrow and took public transportation. Took us about 1 hour.

Neighborhood:
If you miss out on breakfast because you missed the breakfast times (till 9:30 a.m. which can be a challenge for some people) just get yourself a nice Full English breakfast or smaller from the Cafe mentioned above.
The prices are fair (5 pnd for full english, 2 pnd for a cafe)
At night when you come back there are plenty of options for a good Italian or Indian dish at the restaurants there or a cold beer at one of the traditional pubs there.
Or you simply get yourself some refreshments from store open almost 24/7.

Enjoy your stay.
We did and definitely would come back.

This hotel is in a good location, but is way over-priced for its facilities. It is more of a hostel. I have never stayed at a place which charged £20 deposit for its remotes and had no toiletries in the bathroom. You have to pay for those separately.

My room was Ok in size, but very very shabby.

The only pluses were the friendly man on reception, the quiet yet central location and the towels!

I read the TR reports and the hotel website very carefully. Particularly considering the class of establishment this is (a converted Georgian/Victorian residence) it all seemed too good to be true. This has turned out to be the case.

Expecting to have adequate space in the room, I booked a single with all facilities. I was subsequently informed that the allocated room was the largest of this type they had. There was insufficient space for a chair let alone a table or space to place a suitcase.

While the House Manager was extremely helpful and welcoming the support staff all had a glum countenance. If they had smiled I think their faces would have fallen off. They clearly would have prefered to be elsewhere. All requests were fully met and immediately. The room servicing however left something to be desired falling short of any acceptable standard.

Given the long period of receiving positive reports it could be expected that there has been some sitting back of laurels. Standards slip without being noticed. This all appears to be the case.

Room Tip: no suggestion
