“Go for the restaurants and views of Hyde Park”
Reviewed 23 September 2012

The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park has one of the most central locations in London, with beautiful views over Hyde Park on one side of the hotel. It also has excellent banqueting facilities, a fashionable bar and two of London's best restaurants. The rooms are extremely comfortable although it is worth paying up for a room with a view of the park. It is an old building (with a rather dated air conditioning unit in our room) and many of the hotel rooms look out onto a rather gloomy internal courtyard while others look onto Knightsbridge (a great sight but also one of London's busier/noisier streets). There is an excellent spa in the basement, with saunas, steam rooms and a jacuzzi pool.

Service was generally good , although the concierge/doormen services were surprisingly hit and miss. Beware that your final bill has little relation to the quoted room rate - the rate quoted does not include VAT (20%) or the 5% service charge on the accommodation. And on top of this the hotel charges for internet (at these room rates it should be included). Other hotels such as The Berkeley (a comparable hotel across the road from the Mandarin) quote their rates including VAT, which I think is the right way to do it.

We stayed at the Mandarin Oriental, Hyde Park, London from 17 to 19 August and had a wonderful time. We had a room overlooking Knightsbridge, but the double-glazing was very efficient so we slept soundly. Everything in the hotel and the room was plush and comfortable. The staff could not have been friendlier and the breakfast in the garden overlooking Hyde Park was as memorable as the excellent food and service in the hotel's restaurant: "Dinner at Heston Blumenthal's". This experience has encouraged us to look at other Mandarin Oriental hotels across the globe. We are difficult to please guests, but the staff at the Mandarin Oriental succeeded.

This hotel isn't just about stylish rooms it's about an experience. The restaurant is simply brilliant with great food and service to match. The training in this hotel must be world class because the restaurant and bar staff are simply the best I've come across.
The location is first rate too with all the iconic stores such as Harvey Nichols just across the road and great connections to heathrow

Wish I could have moved in! Everything was perfect, I could not have asked for more.

I picked this hotel because of the Mandarin brand, The bonus was the great location for several reasons: next to Hyde Park, next to great shopping, and next to the Underground. Of course car service is available, however I wanted the option of inexpensive transportation to get around easily and to go to and from Heathrow Terminal 5 via the Underground for 5.30 GBP. It takes 50 minutes, and was a breeze.

The rooms are large and comfortable, the food was delicious, and service was flawless. They are adding a pool, can hardly wait to go back!

Room Tip: For a quiet room, suggest asking for a room over looking the courtyard, or Hyde Park.

Outstanding from the minute you arrive. This is a beautiful hotel, superb service and very friendly staff indeed. The room was divine and every little detail is thought about. 5 stars plus all the way and the spa is a little bit of paradise in central london. A truly magnificent stay and cant recommend highly enough. One day we shall be back.
