We visited Tate Britain recently to see the "Impressionists in London" and the "All too human" special exhibitions (these are paid entry exhibitions). Both were wonderfully displayed with informative supporting panels plus as a bonus the gift shop had a 50% sale for the "Impressionist" merchandise as it closed within a week of our visit. The permanent collection (free entry) is a MUST SEE, full of amazing historic iconic artworks by the likes of Turner, Constable and Bacon.
